Chiang Mai Grand Canyon Where Is It (Or What Is It)

Featured Replies

it's from dangerous daredevil cliff diving with no lifeguard on duty.

The water itself has no currents to worry about and one can grab onto the sides to rest.

These kids are most likely being knocked unconscious or perhaps getting trapped underwater.

Fun to watch but they often make crazy jumps

The water appears blue and clean so I don't think its Ob Luang?

Seems there are around 3 places referred to as Grand Canyon of Thailand. Seems the post about near Ob Khan National Park is correct.

It looks great, you can see it from the plane on clear days, but these pics bring it to life!

It looks like (once you've checked for debris and depth) you can easily take running jumps, wow so cool!

Swimming anywhere is dangerous, it's tragic that these 2 youngsters passed away, however we will be jumping off those cliffs!

Please exercise caution when swimming here. 2 students from Prince Royal's College drowned there Friday.

RIP to the students.

Which place, Richard10365? There are mention of different places in this thread, more than one being referenced as "Grand Canyon....."

You are correct, ok some of the comments on here are talking about Grand Canyon as in a particular old quarry, one of many that are dotted around, there is also nearby Ob Khan National Park, that has a nice river and gorge that are safe for swimming....frequented by many Thai's at the weekends. Went there a few months ago and the water was crystal clear and swam through the gorge but went a few weeks ago and due to rains, the water was a bit murky and dirty but still took a dip!

It is here:

  • 3 months later...

I drove by the mini canyon lake at Nam Phrare yesterday.

There is some building work occurring in front of the lake by the road side. Unfortunately I did not have time to stop to find out what they were building. It could be a shop or possibly another restaurant. Not sure though what arrangements will be made for parking.
