Yellow Head Snake

Featured Replies

Hello

I have seen before my house a small ( 20 cms , maybe a young ) snake with a yellow head ( dark yellow above, then a black line then light yellow in the bottom of the head

), and grey body with black lines on both sides

can you suggest a name please ?

Hard to tell from the photograph but could be a Golden tree snake

Looks like a red necked keelback.

They have a venom that can harm your kidneys, if I remember correctly.

I have quite a few of those up here, they don't all have they red neck. I assume it comes when they snake gets older. How long was this one?

Also there are often color variations within species of snakes.

this one is very thin and very small : 20 cms long, may be it's a young one

Red necks grow to 130cm. Considered dangerous but not deadly.

I think it is a yellow spotted keelback

yes,I think it is : here is the picture of yellow spotted keelback : because mine ( I think ) is very young, the top of the head is dark yellow, but the color fades when getting older

and an other one : "Juvenile Yellow-spotted Keelback, showing yellow neck marking that fades with age "

and an other picture of mine ( left ) :

as said above, the red keelback is dangerous, and the yellow one is not venimous : thai name of yellow spotted keelback is : งูดางแห ( ngoo dang hae )

btw, can you tell me the name of this one ( on right side : I wonder if it's not a cobra ? thanks

Well I guess i got both these kinds of keelbacks on my yard. I didn't know about the yellow spotted one so I thought they were all rednecks.

The other one might be an oriental rat snake. I had one in my garden this morning about 2 metres. I think they get bigger than that up to 3m. They are not dangerous.

Or it could me another keelback. They can lose the yellow colouring as they get older. How big was it?
