There is a huge spider set up home under my house. It's body is about 4cms long and it is thin, black with yellow stripes. It's leg span is nearly as big as my hand - I have big hands!

Anyone know about these at all please?

There's a lot more things living under your house, don't worry too much until they living in your house, :o

Get one of the kids to take a picture of it and maybe we can figure out what it is, :D

OOOOOPs - what are they, I forget the word!!!???? Erachnids?

Good guess, yes. Just spelled wrong - Arachnid

"An arthropod belonging to the class Arachnida which includes spiders, scorpions, mites and ticks. Arachnids have 4 pairs of legs (segmented) and a body which is divided into two parts (the cephalothorax and the abdomen)."

Another word: Arachnaphobia, that's me - the small ones not too much, but the big ones that occasionaly find their way into my house - :o

tywais don't look at the pic then.................

Too late, I'm just now climbing off my desk top. :o

Pictures don't bother me, actually fascinate me - just the real thing gets me going.

it's very beautiful actually, I am more scared of small bees. We have a bunch of them in our bar and they chose to nest in the ###### drinks cabinet. Last year it was a music speaker!!!! They hurt when they sting too. They make nice honey!!! Last week I was sitting on a barstool when I felt something and it was a bee on my foot. On further inspection the entire "family" was nesting around the leg of the bar stool !!!!!!!! Not a happy Seonai :o

Nice one Gazza !!!!!! Had me sitting laughing alone here in the house!!!!!

The time I asked about bees was worse - Bambi sent me a disgusting array of pics of bloody bees.

Sounds like a Golden Orbweb to me. Very common in Thailand. They have the strongest silk of any known spider. I've seen them spin webs between two trees about 20 feet apart. Last time I looked we had three of them around the house. I have some pictures I took somewhere, if I find them I'll post one.

Sounds like an orb spider of some sort. If it has a home (web) under your house in a spot where you are unlikely to get a face full of web (and spider) everytime you walk there, just leave it alone. It will keep down the number of bugs that enter your house. It is harmless in its web and not likely to enter the house like a Huntsman or Tarantula would.

Hi All,

This one gave me a shock. Just after closing the glass sliding doors about midnight this one was at eye level on the vertical venetian blinds, six inches from my face! It certainly woke me up from my sleepy state!

Next morning it was still there and then I discovered that spiders can jump. An unnerving sight to say the least.

An extensive search on the internet could not determine the exact type but anyway it disappeared before it could do any harm.

Cheers,

Yeah, 6 legged spiders are hard to track down on the internet. :D

But erm, Thailand has tarantulas? That get in the house? I just might have to change my plans on staying in Thailand .... :o

There are no dangerous spiders in Thailand but a few whch will give you a nasty nip if you are unlucky and anyphlactic reaction if you are truly unlucky!

As much as spiders give me the heebie jeebies, it beats the heck out of all this politics which is going on.........

I think Old Croc's general information was based on Aussie conditions and spiders - my friend's house up in the Blue Mountains northwest of Sydney has plenty of huntsmen inside his house, and I was not allowed to kill them even though they were extremely unnerving. :o

They also discovered a nest of funnelwebs two meters away from my mate's bedroom window, after he woke up in the morning with a funnelweb taking a morning stroll on the window sill just above his bed. :ph3ar:

Can 6 legged spiders be considered as insects (3x2 legs instead of 4x2 legs)?

I think you will notice a total of 8 legs on this spider if you look close enough. There is one bent over his backside on his left and there seems to be one longer one and a shorter one on his right front.

John, couldn't get you picture to show but it has eight legs.
