Explanation Letter For Triple Entry?

Featured Replies

I am applying for a triple-entry visa in Washington DC. The Thai Consulate just called to say they need me to provide an explanation letter for "why" I need a triple-entry visa (even though the application clearly states "tourism"). I went to Thailand a couple years ago and it was no problem to get a double-entry from the Washington DC consulate.

Has anyone else been asked to provide this letter? If so, what are "acceptable reasons" for needing a triple-entry?

Thanks!

Travel to other countries and returns. The point is you are not expected to remain in Thailand for extended periods using a tourist visa. Honorary Consulates are often more likely to issue. And yes explanations are often asked for 2 or 3 entry tourist visas.

So tell us what is your real reason for a triple entry visa.

SB007, in a situation like yours I would write a letter, addressed to the consul, giving my planned travel itinerary.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

"Travel and return" actually is the real reason for requesting a triple-entry, but I know that sometimes the real reasons aren't good enough. I'll supply the letter with some travel details and will keep my fingers crossed.

I don't remember being asked for this before (not saying it didn't happen...just saying I don't remember it happening) and I wondered if perhaps it was a new requirement.

Thank you all for your input.

It's not a new requirement and is completely within the discretion of the consular staff. As such, you either comply with the request or... A simple explanation of your travel plans should suffice. I have run into this once or twice and a few simple and respectful lines took care of it.

Hi ,I just read this post about a letter to explain why a explanation is required for a triple entry visa. Can you please let me know the results? I just finished a triple entry in May. Originally, I was asked why a triple entry at the time and I said I was investigating to retire(I'm 60 yrs. old) . I want to go back in August again.I was going to say i was looking at retirement again and need to experience living in other areas. Basically I want to live and travel and sight see around Thailand with my GF and family. Is this a legitimate thing to say?

I wonder what I should put down instead of tourism on my TM. 7 if I am ever asked?
