Thank you I was starting to feel left out as I am currently in the UK and thought you were all getting 4.3 upgrades! I am still on Base 1.22 but don't feel so bad about it now!

Don't worry. I'm in Thailand with an I-MOBILE Q6 one of the earlier ones.... had one firmware update but sod all about JB... the shitholes :lol::D:P

Seems that my IQ XA has been superceded by a new flagship called IQ 6.1 using latest MTK 6589T but resolution is still the same.

Unlike Chinese made Zopo C3 with the same MTK6589T plus a full hd resolution of 1920X1080 with a very high pixel density of 441ppi!

A pity she's an Apple IOS fan and is using her iphone 5 happily, even after it ran into network problems in it's 1st year and had it replaced with a refurbished set on a one-to-one exchange.-_-

How to Locate Your Lost or Stolen Android Phone (and Wipe if Necessary)

Thanks to a new native Android tool, you can now easily locate your phone and (in a worst case scenario) perform a remote data wipe. Read on as we show you how to activate the feature on your phone.

Why Do I Want to Do This?

Whether you’re just prone to losing your phone in your house or you’re worried about data security if your phone is actually stolen, there’s no good reason to skip turning on the security features available through Android Device Manager. It’s free, it has next to no overhead, and you can access it to locate your device and/or remote wipe it from any computer you can log into your Google account from.

Even if you think you’ll never need it, it takes so little effort to turn it on that it would be outright foolish to not do so.

What Do I Need?

To follow along with this tutorial you’ll need the following things:

  • 1 Android device running Android OS 2.2+
  • 1 Google account

Note: While Android Device Manager has been available to Google business account users for some time, Google only started rolling it out to consumer/standard accounts in early August, 2013. If Android Device Manager isn’t on your Android phone yet, check back in a few days to see if you’ve received the update.

Turning On Android Device Manager

By default, the new Android Device Manager feature is turned off. In order to enable it grab your Android phone and navigate to Settings -> Security ->Device Administrators. This menu will be available to everyone, even if the update hasn’t officially rolled out to their phone. If your phone has received the update, you’ll see the following entry within the Device Administrators menu:

Go ahead and check the checkbox next to Android Device Manager. You’ll be prompted with the following security screen:

Normally those kind of sweeping powers would be a red flag, but in the case of this particular app we’re specifically using it to allow us to remote wipe our phone and change security settings. Go ahead and click the Activate button.

Note: Users on earlier versions of the Android OS may be required to individually check “Remotely locate this device” and “Allow remote factory reset” before accepting the changes.

Once the Android Device Manager has been activated, you can return to the home screen and resume using your phone.

Managing Your Phone via the Device Manager Web Portal

Once you’ve set up the Android Device Manager on your phone, you can begin managing it from the Android Device Manager web portal, available at: https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager. The first time you access the service you’ll need to accept an agreement to allow Android Device Manager to use your location data.

After that you can select your device from the dropdown menu in the corner and perform one of three tasks.

First, using GPS/Wi-Fi location data from the phone, you can locate the phone. This feature is dependent on recent GPS data and if the GPS/location functionality has been turned off on the phone for a period of time (say, several days) it will simply remote that the location is unavailable.

Second, you can ring the device to locate it if it is in earshot. Even if your phone has the ringer turned off or set to vibrate it will switch to the default ringtone at 100% volume. This is the most practical feature of Android Device Manager as not many people routinely deal with device theft, but many of us are guilty of misplacing our devices.

Finally, you can remotely wipe the device. This function initiates a factory wipe on the device. The portion of the warning “We may not be able to wipe the content of the SD card in your device” is a bit ambiguous. Internal storage designated as /sdcard will be wiped. Removable SD cards may be wiped depending on the hardware/OS version. The business version of Android Device Manager has a specific wipe-SD-card functionality which if not already deployed in the consumer version of Android Device Manager will likely be deployed in the near future.

brilliant, it would be nice if the phone could just be locked down rather than wiped, and if it rang for the full 5 minutes it claims it will rather than just once, but im impressed.

this feature would have saved me a half hour of looking for my phone the other morning.

Just bought an IQXA and am very happy with it. Paid 7,700 btw. Just a couple of questions though...

Find that when i pick up the phone and want to use it, it's a little fiddly getting started. Have to first press the power button, and with the skin case fitted, usually takes a few tries. Then have to swipe the screeen. Process not as quick as i would like. Any way of changing this?

Brightness of the screen seems to flicker quite a bit, intermittently going darker and then lighter within seconds. I assume this is to do with having it set on auto-brightness? Is the solution to take it off auto, but waste battery life?

yes auto brightness is the culprit. i set it about 50-60 percent. plenty bright enough.

where did you find it for 7.7?

MBK. Place selling it at what seems to be something like wholesale. All the other customers seem to be vendors buying dozens of phones at a time to sell on at their own stalls.

Without sitting down with a pen and paper and drawing a route through the maze of thousands of booths that all look identical, it's kind of hard not to be vague. Best i can really do is to say that it's one of the ones not in the middle but on the outer wall and if you walk around just look for the shop that has a big gaggle of customers jostling to make a purchase. When I go next time I'll make a note of the name. They sell everything a good thousand baht cheaper than everywhere else.

You can also get the phone at Tesco, they have a promotion for 8500 Baht if I remember correctly. You will also get an extra 500 Baht shopping voucher.

I agree, when using the clear plastic case provided it's difficult to press the power button, that plastic case is probably the worst part of the phone. When I first got mine I bought a pouch type case and removed the plastic one. At least that solved the pressing the power button problem. On a positive note there are cases now available that are designed specifically for the IQ X(A), priced at around 350 baht, but on the downside the only ones I've seen so far are designed for kids with silly cartoon motives on. Plain ones can't be far away though

Personally I'd rather have the added safety of swiping the locked screen and not risking turning the phone on by accidentally pressing the power button but if having to swipe the locked screen is a pain there is a post early in this thread (or the other i-moblie thread that's been running recently) that describes how to remove the locked screen completely. You can then simply press your power button and go straight to your last home page .

Can anyone explain the terms of the free Imobile SIM card that comes with the phone. Seems to offer free calls and free internet for a certain period.

i had no end of trouble with it and ended dropping in a tru sim.

i love that i can make all my voice calls on my 10 year old AIS number 01 and still use true 3g. without any number porting nonsense

As I posted in this thread previously my phone appeared to die and after waiting for the battery to drain it booted again sucessfully. At that time though it stopped being recognized by my laptop when plugged into the USB. I have since tried many combinations of cable and computer but still no luck. I'm wondering if somewhere there is a charge only setting for the USB. I can't see it anywhere and can't remember if I ever saw it on this phone. As I'm still in the UK I can't take it to a service centre and get it checked out.

Anyone seen this problem?

When yr phone is connected to laptop or computer via usb cable,did u press the "back" button for the phone not to be in usb mode?

I stumpled upon it incidentally and the specifications are absolutely impressive for the price. (5.7000 THB when bought online)

I had a feature-phone from i-mobile a few years ago and was quite satisfied, until I managed to be stupid enough to damage the screen.....

I stumpled upon it incidentally and the specifications are absolutely impressive for the price. (5.7000 THB when bought online)

I had a feature-phone from i-mobile a few years ago and was quite satisfied, until I managed to be stupid enough to damage the screen.....

one of my students has one.. i had a little play with it.. it seemed smooth and certainly worth the money. I asked him if he liked it the answer was positive but he said he wanted a samsunglaugh.png

But his dad decided that at half the price this was better..... so some thais do have sense.
