Ethiopian Airlines Experiences Anyone?

Featured Replies

My company have booked me a flight from Equatorial Guinea, to Addis Ababa (ET905) and then ET 618 from there to Swampy, all economy class.

I've done some research but can't find much about these particular legs. Company safety seems ok; slightly above average.

Anyone got any experience of travelling with Ethiopian, particularly on the Addis Ababa to BKK leg?

Thanks folks.

(yeah.. yeah.. i know it was a hijack, but still... a dramatic sequence)

Thanks Rab. I checked that website already. The way they list their reviews, it takes ages to find a review of a flight that matches mine, so I was hoping there might be someone on here that had flown with them recently.

I have flown them once, from Djibouti to Addis Ababa once. The plane did not crash, so it was a positive flight.

Several years ago, I used them for Bangkok to Lagos via Addis in Business Class. Comfy enough flight but the bags were bumped off the plane either in Bangkok or Addis and took another couple of days to show up in Lagos. Bangkok is a 'stopover' and not a 'turnaround' destination so the plane was full of African clothing buyers returning from China with LOADS of excess baggage. I reckon the airline was happy to get all these excess baggage fees and bugger the rest.

Much more recently used them Coach Class for a FIFO trip to Kuala Lumpur. Plane was uncrowded and service was good and the air-conditioning was positively arctic... which is a good thing.

For African destinations, they aren't the worst and they pretty much do have a monopoly but there no 1-stop alternatives out of Malabo or don't go via Europe. With 2-stops, there's Turkish and Emirates. If money was no problem, I would go with the latter but for ease of travel, stay with Ethiopian.

Used them from South Africa to BKK via Addis Abiba no problems, was quite ok

Heathrow to Asmara long time ago, when it was in Ethiopia,

the flight from Asmara to Massawa was spectacular, like

flying off a cliff, and a huge rise in temperature at the

bottom. ah the good old days..

My advice would be eat before you board!!!

As NAN mentioned, I've also used them 2 times in the last couple years on the BKK to addis Ababa to Lagos flight,, wasn't so lucky as NAN, I went economy, won't say more other than thankful that I've only used them twice in 2 years,,,, terminal is dated, but at least I found a coffee shop there

Took BKK to KUL originating in Addis recently... Plane filthy, food so-so. Bring disinfecting wipes.

No probs with overweight passengers spilling over into your space!!
