Lost Departure Card

Featured Replies

Hello. I'm a teacher working in Chiang Mai. I lost my departure card and my school replaced it for me. They told me it cost 5,500 Baht to get a new one in one day. I don't believe them so I'd like to call immigration and check. Does anyone know immigration's phone number? The number listed on their site (053-201755-6) doesn't work. And if anyone knows what it costs to replace a departure card, that would be useful info too.

Thanks,

John

I lost mine and the immgration hotline advised me to go to a police station and get a police report. I presented the police report whenever i needed to do extensions of stay at immigration and never had a problem. When i left thailand i grabbed a new one at checkin and just filled out the departure side

This is my only knowledge on the subject that was told to me. A friend of mine came here for a three week holiday and when leaving at the airport, he told the immigration guy. He was given another card to fill out, moved to one side and in a few minutes he was heading towards his plane.

That's all that happened? Come on, just get a new one at the airport or at a land border, no problems at all. 5500 Baht to get a replacement? Sounds like a scam to me.

Certainly a scam. My partner lost his a few years ago and did exactly what uptheos said, told the immigration officer and got a new one.

Ask them for the official receipt.

Thanks so everybody who replied. I was already fairly sure my wealthy, greedy school was lying to me, but I'm still trying to get an official word from immigration. I could really use contact info for immigration. Also, no one has mentioned anything about paying for a replacement yet. Has anyone had to pay or is it free? Did you get it immediately?

Oh, great idea overherebc! Why didn't I think of that? Thanks!

The other posters have given good advice if you were here for short term on a tourist visa.

As you are working im guessing you will be needing to go to immigration to do extensions which require the arrival/departure form.

Just get the police report its only takes 10 mins.

Just get off your ass and go to the immigration office in Chiang Mai. The don't bite, just tell them the truth. They will help you out and you can be on your merry way.

YOU are being scammed ;-)

Picking one up on the way out and filling it out? I think they are numbered and there is a bar code on each. I would think they scan it in on arrival and scan when you leave.

Lost mine one time, immigration officer at Chiang Rai immigration asked me where it was? I told him I had no idea, he sighed and stapled a new blank one in my passport. Next time I left the Country the immigration chap took it out of my passport, wrote something on it and gave me the passport back. Total cost 0 baht, total problem zilch!

If your school has you that scared then pay the money and start looking for a better school.

Do not ask for a receipt as you will just be scammed. Listen to the advice given to you by posters who have lost the departure card

Last time I was doing a visa run, I went to Singapore. The evening before, I checked my documents to make sure I had everything. When I arrived at the airport and handed my passport over to the lady at checkin, she handed me back a fresh arrival card and said I should fill it out.

Turns out, somewhere between the check the previous evening and arriving at the airport, I had lost my departure card.

So I duely filled in the departure side of the card and presented it to the immigration officer. He looked at it and asked what happened to the original. I told him I didn't know as I had it last night.

He crossed out the number on the card and stamped me out. No fuss no muss, and no fine or other delays.

OP - Go to a police station and ask for a report to say you have lost your departure card. This cost me 100 baht.

Then go to the airport and speak very very politely to the security staff at departures.

Explain to them that you need a replacement card. (I was applying for a work permit at the time i lost my card, so i took all my work permit application paperwork with me to the airport).

The security staff then took me to an office in the departure lounge and the immigration staff very kindly completed a new departure card for me. This did not cost me anything.

I did all of this in 1 day for 100 baht.

You are being scammed big style mate!
