atyclb Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 We pause in silent prayer that he did not rob a bank to fund veterinary care for sick buffaloes
Chao Lao Beach Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I'm sure the note was made to look like it wasn't him nor his writing. Duh. BTW, bash the yanks if you come from a small socialist country on the brink of collapse & have gotten a lot of US aid over the course of the past few decades (or would otherwise be speaking German right now). Here we go again............. another one who believes Hollywood's version of history. I don't bash my American friends or their country. But I don't limit my historical research to Hollywood either. As for this teacher - who knows what drove him to rob a bank? But chances are his mind was not working straight when he wrote the note, hence the mixture of upper and lower case. Interesting that he isn't allowed bail - "because violence was used". He said he had a knife and gun but didn't actually hurt anyone, other than scaring them. Now if he'd shot a few he'd presumably be allowed bail like the several cases involving Thai policemen or treated nicely like the two Aussie tattoo gunment. The law here certainly works differently. An armed robber wouldn't get bail in most countries, so I don't think Thailand is any different. I don't know what the penalties are for Armed Robbery in Thailand but this guy could be looking at a very long stretch in the Hilton. Chooka, Convicted Murderers get bail in Thailand for $6000 USD
Italian guy Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 It may have been a class project and one of the students was tasked with writing the note. LMAO
Anthony an Panida Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 The problem is that in some schools here you can actually teach without a police clearance check from your home country, especially if you arrived before those rules were in place. This means there is a nice assortment of this type of person legitimately teaching. Rapists, murderers, bank robbers etc...
Italian guy Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 "He is expected to be held in Prison until a trial date as this was a crime involving violence and he may be considered a flight risk" Violence? Is a note considered violence?
ratcatcher Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 What a tragic shame his students will be deprived of having a teacher so dedicated to educating them that he robbed a bank in order to stay because he wasn't being paid a decent wage. That sort of self-sacrificing devotion to teaching is rare. What planet are you living on.....how do you know he was dedicated and not a yabba freak....... "What planet are you living on" Holy excrement! If what pilot321 wrote wasn't pure unadulterated SAR CHASM, well I'll be Chalerm.
sonar6ca Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 1. American English teacher? Maybe he missed a few courses in university, D for grammar. 2. Did he have a "working visa"? 3. You shouldn't steel away jobs from locals!
bangkokrick Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 He will soon have all the time in the world to learn to write the note in the Thai language.
ratcatcher Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 What was his Thaivisa handle? Poor Teacher? Rich Teacher is busy on more important subjects.
thetitan99 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I guess he should have wrote "Pardon me young Miss, if it wouldn't be too much trouble might you see that my satchel is properly monied lest I am impelled to implement the use of my weapons."
easybullet3 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Reminds me of that Woody Allen film: "Take the money and run!!" the bank robbery scene with the spelling mistake on the robbery note!! MUST WATCH!! (classic Woody Allen comedy scene)
fasteddie Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 May I have a pat on the back please ; Posted Yesterday If it is not the German drug trafficker then we may all have a good laugh when it turns out to be an Australian or a North American. Oh whoopee, your third choice, big deal!
AllanB Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Are we supposed to believe that this scrawl was written but an English teacher? Complete nonsense, 3 year old perhaps and why a note, so they wouldn't know he was a farang? Wouldn't it have made more sense for it to be written in Thai, as it was a Thai bank? I don't know where these stories come from..
Tchooptip Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Listening to the news on Televison this morning, my long haired translator (wife app) said that he had 2 or 3 wives/girlfriends and liked to gamble and go to go go bars ( the latter, the wife app, has banned me from....lol) Can't see anything about this on the original news report, any Thai speakers pick this up n the news??? Interesting to know what motivated him to do such a stupid thing, as on paper being a teacher, should have more sense. PS I would like a job......which school was it??? As there appears to be a vacancy (shame I'm not a teacher) Since when one has to be a teacher to teach English in LOS?
darren84310 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Speaks volumes for American english teachers. And those posters on the other thread who said it wouldn't be a yank but an aussie, what say now? I think you should look at your own English first! And I am English not American.
AjarnMartin Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I have never had a high opinion of English Teachers in Thailand but this chap is barely literate in the language. How on earth could someone like this get a job teaching?! Patrick You know all the English teachers in Thailand then? Obviously you're speaking from an elevated, erudite position! I am one of those teachers on whom you pour scorn and I've never met you but I have a Masters' Degree, Cambridge University teaching qualification and many years of experience in Thailand.
axact Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I have never had a high opinion of English Teachers in Thailand but this chap is barely literate in the language. How on earth could someone like this get a job teaching?! Patrick Easily, you pay peanuts you get monkeys.... Thailand being one of the lowest payer for foreign teachers. Lol, you ask how could he get a job teaching, when you see students being unable to speak a word of English after years of having Thai teachers then you will understand. Like China its usually the white face they want to attract the rich parents, educational ability has little to do with little things like teaching as they don't care if the kids learn or not.
HerbalEd Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 That note alone shows that Yanks should not be teaching English to anyone. Sent from my GT-I9003 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app Wow ... that's a very big conclusion from such a small note. You must be very smart indeed.
hawker9000 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Speaks volumes for American english teachers. And those posters on the other thread who said it wouldn't be a yank but an aussie, what say now? Oh yes. Well known fact that only Americans commit crimes in Thailand. Never Aussies; never Brits; never Germans, Russians or whatever. Your post speaks volumes alright, but not about American English teachers... (And you're in the same exact club with anyone who took the opportunity to slam aussies "on the other thread".) Why do some just feel they HAVE to go down this road EVERY time some foreigner commits a crime in Thailand? What a pointless, mindless "competition", unless you REALLY feel one particular group or another is responsible for the overwhelming majority of crimes being committed. Is THAT what you're claiming here? If so, support the claim. If not, then you're just playing the drama queen.
fasteddie Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I'm sure the note was made to look like it wasn't him nor his writing. Duh. BTW, bash the yanks if you come from a small socialist country on the brink of collapse & have gotten a lot of US aid over the course of the past few decades (or would otherwise be speaking German right now). I wish we were socialist and from under the influence of your ponzi banking scheme. You only FINALLY came to the aid of Europe to protect your investments.
happy chatter Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Speaks volumes for American english teachers. And those posters on the other thread who said it wouldn't be a yank but an aussie, what say now? so say all of us ozis
a99az Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I have never had a high opinion of English Teachers in Thailand but this chap is barely literate in the language. How on earth could someone like this get a job teaching?! Patrick Please Patrick, he's a teacher of English not an English teacher. What do you except from a non native English speaker?
HerbalEd Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Are we supposed to believe that this scrawl was written but an English teacher? Complete nonsense, 3 year old perhaps and why a note, so they wouldn't know he was a farang? Wouldn't it have made more sense for it to be written in Thai, as it was a Thai bank? I don't know where these stories come from.. Yeah, great idea. He should have had a Thai translation service write the note for him.
easybullet3 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Reminds me of that Woody Allen film: "Take the money and run!!" the bank robbery scene with the spelling mistake on the robbery note!! MUST WATCH!! (classic Woody Allen comedy scene)
rijb Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Here's a collection of actual bank robbery notes... A jackpot for you grammar nazis! One suspect used an iPhone to show his note to the teller.
MaxYakov Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I have never had a high opinion of English Teachers in Thailand but this chap is barely literate in the language. How on earth could someone like this get a job teaching?! Patrick One of the prerequisites was probably being able to spell 'gun' correctly, not 'gub'. The tricky word was probably 'knife'. PS: Oops, missed the Woody Allen video clip on page 6.
zaZa9 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Speaks volumes for American english teachers. Here we go.Just a tongue in cheek comment no offence intended. It is funny having a note written like this and it turns out to be an english teacher. Being American is just a bonus for jokes. He may have written it like that to deliberately put people of the cent. And get him on the dollars ??
