I'm not the best person to ask but a friend went there last year. He said you can cross the border to a small market but go no further so you can't get your passport stamped. I also experienced that but that was 15 years ago. Mae Sot would be a better bet but I'm only repeating what has been said to me. Others may know more.

No, this is not possible.

No official border check point near Kanchanaburi .

You can get a 15 day stamp at Mae Sot, but no visa.

However the Thai Embassy in Yangoon issue Double Entry Tourist Visa, but you have to fly in.

Look at a map and find Tak province and then Amphoe Mae Sot.

Park you car and walk across border is the best option. Taking a car out of Thailand requires paperwork plus passport for the car from transport ministry.

Just curious as to why you would need to take your car out of Thailand and then bring it straight back..

You can cetainly do this at the Malaysian border, but it requires the original Blue Book and an official translation of the cover page/owner details; there is then a whole bunch of things you need to do at the border to temporarily export/re-import the vehicle.

Note that if you have tinted windows, then you will have to remove the film to get the vehicle into Malaysia, where heavy window tints are illegal.

thanks

is there a sort of no mans land at mae sot where i can park the car after it has gone out of Thailand. most crossings seem to have this

The border crossing is a bridge. You have to either park the car in Thailand or in Myanmar.

I guess it's a foreign registered car and hence the need for it to do a border run along with you?
