How do you know the two at the airport were "total scumbags"?

id say its more likely they were simply too hot and unawares of local customs

Being unaware of local customs goes a long way to being "total scum". Look out how the Russians behave for example.

Also... I think the tattoo of a woman spread legged on his back is a bit of a give away.

Or 600,000 baht p/m oil workers on their month off.

I love when judgemental 'expats' on pittiful pensions or whatever bitching about everything, complain about the state of some young bloke and it ends up that he's living it up every second month on more money than the other guys makes in a year.

What have their salaries got to do with it?

No, seriously, I'm sure people would love hear the reasoning behind that statement because I thought for a second that you were suggesting that if someone earns a lot of money, it gives them the right to effectively stick a middle finger up to the local etiquette if they feel like it.

Instead of focusing only on "farang" a term that gets overused and I am starting to loathe, how about expanding it to include all the Chinese, Indians and others that come to Thailand in increasing numbers and are creating a lot more headaches for Thais than all the "farang" ever created? It would be funny to talk about their antics. I can tell you there can be a lot more differences in the behavior between Chinese and Thais than between Thais and westerners. The latter are much more likely to know a bit or two about Thai culture whereas the Chinese are mostly coming to Thailand for the first time.

We all have social morays under which we form opinions of people at first sight. However right or wrong, it is part of our makeup.

Something about this fellow tells me to just walk the other way. Might be the nicest guy in the world, but I'll never know because my experience tells me to steer clear of him.

Isn't that a picture of that Shark dude?

If his comments in a Stickman interview are anything to go by - and I don't know if they are - "lovely bloke" isn't the phrase most would use to describe him.

Of course, he may have just been posturing for the article knowing there'd be a large readership.

while i am not in agreement with the op, the notion that a lack of a shirt in a major international airport, is accepted in ANY culture is equally silly.

OP,

How about starting the Undesirable Farang Movement?

All members can carry with them a can of white spray paint.

Whenever you see an Undesirable Farang simply spray a giant 'X' across his/her back so everyone will know.

not so sure about that, armbands or perhaps an embroidered star have proven effective in the past.

Oh god..i think air guitar playing is truly silly..

I used to be into the rock scene and had to stifle major giggles at all the guys doing the air guitar thing.

..but i was never offended by it, i just cringed at it.

I actually enjoy seeing people doing what makes them happy, even if i find it silly.

There are many funny and ting tong people around which does not respect the Thai culture, etc. Which is very wrong. Can´t give me a heartattack how people behave or how they dress, long as I know that tyhey not breaking any laws etc. Wish you all a pleasant weekend.

Including Thais themselves. What is Thai culture. How old is it? For example the Thai national dance . The rung riang (probably bad spelling)

This is Thailand. Of course money makes a person. Just look at the hi so Chinese Thai.. generally horrible stuck up human beings (barely) but they think. Know they are better than anyone else purely because they have more money and flaunt it. Personally I dislike that much more than a couple of guys kicking back and relaxing.

Better having a free mind then being mentally preoccupied with yourself and taking yourself too serious, and having lost all power of to self-relativation.

Wish more people having a free mind as they usually are the ones who bring some color and happyness in the world !

Until it has an effect on your life in Thailand

If you need tattoos you have a serious problem with your idea of self.

to say that, and believe it belies such a morass of preconceptions, prejudices and such a closed mind it astounds me you are even vaguely able to comprehend the notion of "self" or realize that others concept of self may differ to the one in your parochial viewpoint.

people like you are easily ignored, and in my experience clinging to a fading set of beliefs which tend to die with them.

i personally have no tattoos, but have appreciated many

They could just start turning away people with tattoos, that would be a great start - no brainer to weed out the no brainers. I mean, what says IQ <100 more than some stupid picture copied off a tattoo parlor wall, inane scribbling or the worst foreign script (Thai) stained into your body you cannot read, pronounce, understand or explain? Even better, the "tribal tattoo" -from the tribe Morona no doubt.

Asian people with Buddhist or animist tattoos excepted*
