Does anyone (especially mods and admin) know if Thailand will introduce a Second Home Programme like their Malaysia rivals.

I was reading their eligibility criteria and it seems very straightforward. No visa runs, no hassle owning property.

If I had a wish for Christmas Present (Steady, I know its June), but I wish Thailand wakes up and smells the coffee blown in from the expats next door in Malaysia.

I do so love Thailand and don't want to leave.

Please somebody, anybody tell me, that they are at least considering this option to expats, if not planning a Second Home Programme in Thailand.

Just because of this very reason (annoyance by stupidity of rules and regulations here) I went to Malaysia with my wife to check out the situation.

Spent 2 weeks, considering KL and/or Penang.

Not a chance for me!

But I feel your pain... smile.png

Try to understand that expats in Thailand do not appear on the agendas of either of the two political parties. We are simply not important to the economy, which is doing quite nicely without a significant contribution from us. You may regret that fact or regard it with indifference, but that's how it is. It is not difficult to continue to live here, particularly by comparison with the US, for example, but further accommodation will not be forthcoming. Try to get over it.

Says a lot that Malaysia has dropped its pants visa wise for retiree's to go live there and Thailand still wins out.

Not that I'd consider Thailand's visa rules hard. Stick $30K in the bank and stay as long as you want. Hardly a huge hurdle, and given the demand probably what people want. If you want more, you can jump over the border to Malaysia.

Thailand needn't bother - the male expat retiree will flock no matter what flaming hoop he is made to leap through.

Sex sells.

It is not all about sex.

There are some nice temples here.
