June 9, 201313 yr I bought a new Honda 125i a few weeks ago, and the 2nd gear makes a loud whine, almost like a siren. The Mityon dealer where I bought it, and an 2nd Mityon dealer both said "it's normal." I always thought a gear whine was a bad gear, or insufficient lubrication. My 3 year old 125i did not have this problem. One service manager said the new model has a new clutch. One service manager admitted others have complained, but he can't do anything about it because there's no service bulletin on it. Will I have to worry down the line when my 2nd gear goes out, just after the warranty expires?
June 9, 201313 yr Maybe a batch of bikes from Honda with dodgy bearings in the gearbox. "One service manager admitted others have complained," There's ya clue!
June 9, 201313 yr Maybe send a message to AP Honda head office reference the problem. Sent from my i-mobile i-STYLE Q6
June 9, 201313 yr Author I do have a call in, but so far only a guy in promotion or customer service. It's been a week and no return call, but I will follow it up. I had another problem a few years ago and APHonda was very good about responding.
June 9, 201313 yr My advice, just ride it til it breaks.Don't baby the gear.I'd speed or power shift it some.I would try and break it.But that's me.
June 10, 201313 yr Author PC800, your not stupid enough to take everyone's advice, are you? No, I am really looking for someone with a similar experience. Someone with a 4-speed semi-automatic...Wave or MSX with the same problem.
June 10, 201313 yr Author I thought the MSX had a manual clutch? That's right, but someone said 2nd gear whined in the MSX as well. Sorry, I should have clarified that.
June 11, 201313 yr I have a Wave 110i dunno about 2nd gear whine because it never stays in 2nd gear long enough to hear Sent from my i-mobile i-STYLE Q6
