On the topic of complaints, the intention simply was to advise that a complaint made to administration, promptly at the time of the incident, will be the most effective in any transaction or circumstance. There is no wish to inhibit debate here.

Our small team at International Relations does indeed include Natasha, a qualified nurse and interpreter, who is now in her 4th year here. Other nurses in the department are Khun Machima and Grace. Saskia now works part time on Saturday mornings.

Dental cleaning, including verbal reports on any treatment needed, ranges from 500 baht.

FBS, Lipids (cholesterol), liver and BUN/Creatinine are included in our number 4 and 5 Check-Up programs at 3,800 baht for men and women aged 40 and over. The HbA1C (diabetes) check is available on request and one phone call will give full details. Results of most tests are available within 1 to 2 hours.

We do send patients requesting MRI to McCormick Hospital.

Lipid Panel was 600 THB at McCormick (2010). Results emailed to you in one hour (they told me), but I came back by and got the print out an hour later. My compliments to the piano player in the lobby. Very calming, in what can often be a totally nerve-racking experience.

I do appreciate Rajavej coming on here and promoting their services. Competition is a great thing. I'm sure they will find out, if not already, that no one is immune from getting flamed on TV; and that even includes Hospitals. It's nothing personal; just a lot of smart-asses.

I'm not sure I would call a discussion on pricing, flaming, it's a pretty fundamental component of the decision making process when it comes to selecting a health care provider.

I was only getting warmed up. I know you all watch FOX News a lot. Today they had an MD on, who authored a book called "Overdiagnosis." He mentions that for every one in a thousand, who are saved by prostrate exams; there are 150-200 misdiagnosis, and the high risk of infection from going in your hole to do a biopsy. Ten years ago, everyone needed to be on beta blockers, then everyone needs Lipitor, and of course no one can get it up, and must use Viagra.

The medical profession loves all this stuff, because it requires lots of office visits/lab work and is non-invasive....and then there's the corporate passes for the golf tournaments. Lower cholesterol, but now you have a liver more toxic than a car battery and you don't even drink on weekends.........

Is there a direct relevance to Rajavej Hospital in all of this?

Just a word of caution before signing up for complete physicals. Word is at BH, everyone needs a specialists. It doesn't sound like they like people to get their own tests without a doctors visit(s).....that's very American. Maybe they think we aren't capable of telling whether or not our level are in the correct ranges for our age/gender (normal level ranges are also printed on the lab reports).

Whilst we can probably all read the lab report that says a particular test is high or low and therefore out of the reference range, most of us are unable to interpret the reason why or decide the appropiate next steps. Case in point is liver panel results where both ALT and AST readings might be in range yet the ratio between the two results determines the problem, a ratio of 1:1 means one thing, 1.5:1 another and a ratio of 1:2.5 something else entirely. Another example might be an reading at the top of the range of BUN for a diabetic, still in range but, it says that some things need to be changed. There are of course many other such examples.

So yes, we do need specialists or at a very minimum, people trained beyond a certain level to help us understand such things.
