What a lot of pig xxxx. They can not compete with the US owing to the lower production costs in America. Total crap . The US has higher wages and overheads plus the shipping costs and can still undercut our poor beleaguered farmers.!!!!!

Just wait until the free market economy in Asean kicks in and these lazy ,greedy buggers will get what they deserve. This country is doomed owing to the lack of understanding that productivity needs management , planning and effort. Three qualities not readily available here.

Also do not expect the price in the market to go down as Thailand exports a large part of it's production overseas. Cheaper pork from the US will only serve to increase their margins.

Total crap?

Consider that in the USA, they raise pigs using hog confinement shelters. 1 shelter typically houses around 350 pigs when they are at what is called "Finishing stage" which is typically from 100 Lbs to slaughter at 250-350 Lbs. This shelter has automatic feed systems, automatic watering systems, medications administered through the water system. These shelters have automatic ventilation systems to heat and cool the shelter with no human interaction. These systems are linked to a telephone warning system which calls the owner when a system fails...... the cost of labor per pig pound is minimal in the worst case scenario.

Transportation? Consider that a typical refridgerated container will cost around $5000 to transport from the USA to Thailand, it holds around 20,000 lbs, which equates to around 7.5 baht per pound delivered to Thailand........

The US farmer doesn't have to pay for his barn, he doesn't need to purchase the feed, these costs are borne by the consolidator (Smithfield). The US farmer has a computer running the operation. And the sh*t? That is used on his fields reducing the cost of fertilization or sold to farmers without hog confinement facilities. So lets just say his electric bill is his overhead!

Nahh, the Thai farmer can't compete because they typically use old fasioned methods and are competing with an advanced system that has marginilized the Thai advantage of cheap labor. The USA is using a plug and play system the Thai's are using a tube radio..........
