Beware- Truemove H Sms Scam

Featured Replies

I have a mobile plan with Truemove H for over 1 year now with no problems, however, my recent monthly invoice included an extra charge of thb 716.

I notice there were extra charges for "Content Service": Horoscope, Subscription Service, Game Application, Score Soccer, a total of 76 SMS messages (see attached).

I have never registered for this extra service and immediately cancelled.

I am now dealing with their Customer Service department on getting a full credit, check your monthly bills carefully!!

Thanks for the heads-up.

It is probably a good idea to review any/all bills each and every month?

Did TrueMove H offer any possible reasons as to how you became registered for these services? Was it four separate services?

Please follow up with any details, both on the credit front, and as to how you became registered.

Did you actually receive any SMSes?

Their Customer Service staff did not offer much help, just mentioned records show I registered for this extra service in early May.

There were 4 separate charges for each service: Horoscope/28SMS- thb 168, Subscription Service/13SMS- thb 260, Game Application/31SMS- thb 248 and Score Soccer/4SMS- thb 40. I can assure you at no time did I subscribe to any of these services.

I knew something was wrong when during this past month I started to receive any unusual amount of "spam SMS" messages from phone # 48-770-37:

"Click to Download"

http://d.sunmob.net

I would normally ignore and/or delete these messages, never downloaded content

It looks like I'm stuck with paying these extra charges which I never subscribed to or downloaded, no one at True appears to care.

^ Is it possible a third party (wife/GF, child, prankster at work) subscribed to these services using your phone when you were unaware?

Most similar posts, and there have been quite a few - especially re: Facebook notification services - seem to have almost always resulted in the service provider removing these charges and/or crediting the account balance. I might push a bit harder on TrueMove H, maybe while (subtly) asking about how the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service works. ;) Most first-level CSRs know when to recognize a potential churner, and can escalate you to a supervisor for resolution.

Thx for your interest in this. Yes, there could be a possibility of someone else subscribing to this service while leaving my phone unattended in my home or at work but wouldn't the SMS charges only apply if I actually downloaded the content from the SMS messages which I have never done.

I'll continue to pursue this with True and hope to receive a favorable resolution to this mess

Thanks again

I have a True Inter Sim. I get SMS messages for music ringtones and the like which I delete. However, I have noticed that the delete and the reply buttons are sometimes reversed, so, if you don't look carefully, you could easily reply rather than delete...just a thought.

I had a similar problem with DTAC - I didn't check my bills and they were sending 36 SMS per month at 9 baht each. I must have signed up when I got the contract. In fairness, when I phoned up, they cancelled the 'service' (whatever it was) and also started sending the bills in English (I can't read Thai). Good luck getting a refund!

Please don't give up. It screws us all. Fight harder. Demand to talk to a higher manager. Eventually you will win. I have had these sorts of battles with DTAC and they always give in in the end. Make them understand that when a farang has a problem with them, no prisoners will be taken. We don't and won't ever say "mai bpen rai" to a screwing.

Thank you all for the support or encouragement, haven't given up yet. Wrote a strong email threatening to report this case to the local Thailand Consumer Protect Bureau (went to their website but everything is in Thai so completely useless) so it must have gotten someone's attention.

Just received an email this morning "they have passed my case to the team in charge". Let' see what happens..................

I had the same thing happened to me with prepaid AIS about the end of last, beginning of this year, start getting a bunch of junk SMS which I was simply deleting but eventually got sick of it and my GF heard me swearing after another SMS so she asked and I said what happened, she was shocked to hear I was getting so many of them and she said I was also getting charged, which was true as I immediately checked my balance and rechecked again after one more SMS. She called a customer support and canceled. I didn't ask about any refunds as I couldn't tell how much I've lost, I just added more money when balance was running low.

At no time ever my phone was in the hands of another person or a child so I know it was something done by the AIS.

Goods news- I checked my recent credit card invoice which just arrived in the mail and noticed Truemove removed the unauthorized SMS charges. However, I would still like an explanation from them on how/who registered me for this service, I suspect shenanigans with some of their staff which will probably be swepted under the carpet

Never give up the fight if you're in the right!
