60 day marriage extension on top of a current 30 day extension?

Featured Replies

Afternoon,

Currently on the final extension of my third and final entry of my triple entry tourist visa.

As im married to a thai national, am I able to use the 60 day extension based on marriage even though im currently on a 30 day extension or would this be deemed too "cheeky" & likely refused?

With a new tourist visa run to Laos looming at the end of the month, this could delay the hassle of a couple days away from things here.

Cheers mates

It is allowed. Take wife and marriage papers and household registration with you.

But why are you using tourist visas? You can obtain a multi entry non immigrant O visa from Savannakhet valid for a year of 90 day stays for 5,000 baht using your marriage certificate and copy of spouse id card/home register.

Will look into that. Thanks mateys

As you are married to a Thai wife, you can apply for a spouse visa multi entry but you have to apply out side of Thailand where there is a main embassy or consula office, not at the immegration border office.

You can do extension only once per entry and they only give 30 days max. tongue.png

You apply for a non immigrant O visa, multi entry, and currently the best location is Savannakhet in Laos as no financials are required - just marriage certificate/copy and copy of spouse home register/id card. This provides 90 day entries that can not be extended 30 days (but there is a 60 day extension option available for those married to a Thai or parent of a Thai).

Just an update;

I went to Chaengwattana with the family, went to the ticketing counter where the "helpful" immigration staff member informed me I would not be able to get the 60 day extension and I had to exit the country for a new visa etc. He also told me I had to wait 15 days for a new visa to be valid (?) To be honest I couldn't make much sense of what he was saying. He handed my documents back and went to turn away but I insisted on having a ticket given anyway. "For 7 days, ok" he says.

Get my ticket, go in to see the lady when called and got the 60 days extension.

Maybe it was just my face ?!

Seems to be a misunderstanding or uninformed immirgation officer at the counter.

There is no 15 day wait for a visa to become valid.

I suspect he did not understand you were asking about a special extending to visit wife rather than just trying to extend your tourist visa entry (which seven days would have been correct).
