The foreigner’s information and data centre at the Phuket Immigration office will be ready soon

PHUKET: -- Pol. Col. Banpotch Kongkachan, the superintendent for the Phuket Imigration office said the construction and set up of foreigners’ data centre will be ready for operation this April. During a meeting with Phuket Governor Udomsak Uswarangkura yesterday, he said the governor asked to speed up the construction work to facilitate and improve the registered database for foreigners entering or staying on the island.

The centre was built under the 1.6 million baht fund support from the Provincial Administration Organization and 3 million baht from the governor’s CEO budget. The superintendent added that after the centre is operational, he will invite Phuket hotel operators to explain the detail and give out passwords so that they can report foreigners’ data and information while staying at their accommodation or business premises. This will improve the data system to be up to international standards, he pointed out.

The system not only facilitates tourists, but can also check for or show on screen overseas criminals who attempt to enter the island he concluded. If run properly the on-line system will be applied in Phang-Nga and Krabi also.
