Four people have been killed after a drone came down on a crowded Black Sea beach in southern Russia, turning a summer resort into a scene of panic just miles from the sprawling estate widely known as "Putin's Palace". The explosion at Arkhipo-Osipovka also left 13 people injured, according to regional officials. Russian authorities said the casualties were caused after the drone was brought down by air defences, although the intended target has not been confirmed. Holiday Beach Descends Into Chaos Witnesses described beachgoers scrambling for cover as gunfire from air defence units echoed overhead before the drone crashed. Video circulating on social media appears to show the aircraft striking a cliff before erupting into flames and exploding moments later. One witness said people sheltered behind rocks and beneath sun loungers as the blast unfolded. Another described crowds fleeing the beach and a man with a bloodied shoulder in the aftermath. Reports indicate a young child was among those killed, though officials have not released the identities of the victims. Questions Over Warning and Air Defences Local mayor Alexey Bogodistov reportedly issued a drone threat warning early in the morning before cancelling it less than 10 minutes later. Witnesses said no warning sirens sounded before the explosion. Krasnodar regional governor Veniamin Kondratyev said the fatalities were caused by debris from a drone intercepted by Russian air defence systems. He offered condolences to the victims' families and confirmed 13 others had been injured. Attack Near High-Profile Estate The crash occurred around 17 miles from the vast Gelendzhik estate commonly referred to as "Putin's Palace", a property long associated with allegations of links to Russian President Vladimir Putin, which the Kremlin has denied. The heavily protected area has been targeted by Ukrainian drones on several occasions during the war. A Ukrainian source, cited in reports, suggested the drone's intended destination may instead have been a private resort used by engineers connected to the Mashinostroyeniya Research and Production Association, a major Russian aerospace and missile developer.
