English sailors got the nickname "Limeys" because since James Cook's time. He made them eat limes from Tahiti to help prevent scurvy.

Pity he didn't teach them about wearing condoms to prevent syphilis from infecting the local population. Then add in the gifts of smallpox, typhoid and the common cold and you can see why he was so popular when he returned to the Hawaiian Islands where they the natives speared him. Seems like a fair trade to me.

Cook's signet ring was lost in the shallows and the story goes that it is cursed and when found the islands will be destroyed.
