Work Permit Renewal - Medical Certificate

Featured Replies

Is the Bangkok work permit office currently requiring a med certificate for renewals?

Thanks.

It's a requirement, so why wouldn't they ask for it?

Maybe better to ask what is required to get a valid health certification.

The newer requirements were a lot more extensive than in the past.

The Labour Department in Bangkok requests a Medical Certificate for Work Permit renewal...

WP renewals require a medical certificate.

As has been said, more important is what the requirements for the certificate are. Some include a blood test for syphilis.

Though the requirement is only not to have 3rd stage Syphilis, if you are found to have only second stage, you'll be fine :P

Just go to any clinic and they have a form and get one for about 300 bth

It must be from a hospital. I submitted report from clinic few years back and it was refused. Done the cert. few days back - chest x-ray, blood test for STDs and general check up from a doctor (heart, lungs etc.).

I can confirm there's no need for a blood test in Bangkok. All you need is all the right boxes ticked - including tertiary syphilis. There seems to be a widespread misunderstanding/scam among some doctors and provincial immigration officials that a blood test is required but in Bangkok it definitely isn't.

It's not helpful to make these general statements without specifying what immigration office you're talking about. I think you got ripped off if you did all those tests - no requirement for those things at all.

Chiang Mai - medical certificate required by labor for the last 3 years that includes a blood test for tertiary syphilis. The usual, 100 baht - you're alive, certificate no longer accepted.

You do not get work permits at immigration.

How do they know you don't have tertiary syphilis if they don't do a blood test?

Good point. I meant the Department of Employment of the Ministry of Labour.

The same way they know you don't have elephantiasis - it's obvious from a brief physical examination. A simple balance test is often mentioned.

Incidentally there's no blood test for tertiary syphilis. The blood test would either be positive or negative for syphilis - it wouldn't say anything about the stage.

I went to BNH on Soi Convent today for the exam. I knew it would cost more than other places but it is convenient and I figured it would be an OK experience. I expected maybe a 1000 baht at the most.

First thing they told me was that I needed a chest x ray for TB and the blood test. They wanted me to do the x ray before seeing the doctor. I insisted no x ray was needed. The nurse said I could discuss it with the doctor if I didn't think I needed it. It was such obvious horseshit that I decided to ask the price for the work permit exam...... 1500 baht.

I went to St. Louis Hospital and payed 680 baht which included the blood test. I'll find out on Friday if it was really needed, but it sounds like it isn't.

1 pay only 50 baht at my local government hospital, without x-ray or blood check. (That would make it a few hundred more).

Which labour office? work permit at Nakhon Pathom last september I needed the blood test.

I am much further out in the boondocks. Many labour offices still have the old requirements without a blood check.

You are able to show up for your medical.

I was instructed by my employer for the procedure of getting a WP, one of which is this:

4. Medical Certificate stating that you have never been suffered or effected by any of these following diseases:

(at any hospital or clinic in Thailand)

So, without a blood test how they can identify your blood type?
