No Street Vendors on Sukhumvit Road?

Happened to be walking between Asok to a meeting on Soi 11 at around 4pm this afternoon. Took me a moment to realise that not one stall was operating on the street! It was marvellous got to my destination in double time.

Not sure if things got back to normal but anyone have any insights on why this was the case?

The street vendors are supposed to be temporary. They introduced the weekly day off about 5 years ago as a way to make sure they don't set up more permanent structures, which had become the case.

When you guys finish your "debate" regarding what is appropriate (or not) for street traders to sell, we might be able to get back to the topic which was about no traders on Mondays. #9 is correct in that Mondays was set aside for cleaning. Personally, Suk without the street traders would simply not be Suk. It is part of the fabric of Thailand and goes a long way towards creating the character of the place, without it, we might as well be back in any major city in the west. What an awful thought.

I live in the neighborhood so cannot avoid. I am not a prude, I jut have a moral compass. Perhaps you don't. There is a difference between a phallus as a fertility symbol and a dildo. I like the vendors makes for fun times sitting at the Game on soi 9 people watching. Well never foregt when to young dunk auzzie guys walked by a stall with tazers. The merchant was not quick enough to stop one from zapping the other. Good times good times!

One odd memory I have of those vendors was a few years back who asked me why I didn't buy something from his stall, I replied it was because I live here, to which he replied very sarcastically and disbelievingly, yea, and I live in San Francisco! Afterwards I reflected on that and I guessed that he must have so many vacationing farang wannabe residents all saying the same thing that he'd become impervious to it all.
