Border stamped passport wrong...

Featured Replies

I got my double entry visa in Vientiane, and came back through the Thai border on the 30th March. Having noted the dates of entry end exit so I know when to leave by, I made a cursory glance at the stamp to make sure it was there.

It is now the 18th of June, and I have until the 27th before having to extend my initial entry. BUT, having checked over my passport, it now seems that I was only given a 14 day tourist stamp, according to which I had to leave by the 13th April! I guess the border official didn't see my double-entry visa in my passport :/

So... I'm off to the immigration office. Packing some extra sandwiches in case I end up in the IDC. Will update if my cell has wifi...

Don't worry, a common mistake.

But hope you did fill in your visa number on the arrival card, that makes it clear it was their mistake.

This was your first entry on the double entry visa you just received in Vientiane?

If so, normally no problem, although it would have been better if it got corrected within the 2 weeks they gave you on entry!

No Wi-Fi then? ermm.gif

Sorry for the lack of update, it turned out to be quite a busy day and I wont be able to get to the immigration office until Monday now. I'm staying in Pak Chong so I believe Bangkok is going to be my nearest Immigration office, and detention centre :P

This was my first entry after receiving the double entry visa yes... I have searched high and low, but I think I disposed of my arrival card.... oops

Looks like it's the IDC for you then. Unless your arrival card surfaces in the meantime, I suggest you load a pantechnicon with sandwiches on Mondayfacepalm.gif

Total nonsence.

People loose their departure cards all the time.

Korat immigration is nearest office.

Address for Korat immigration.

You should get a police report for your lost TM6 departure card. Immigration often asks for one.

Do you have a copy of it? That would help a lot.

If you are staying in a hotel they might of lost it if they made a copy of your passport and card.

Also just take the possibility of IDC out of your mind. It is not going to happen.

Another strange point: I understand he got a double-entry tourist visa end of March, but I think a TV only give 60 days max (before extension), so he should have gone to an Immigration office (for extension) or a border (for second entry) end of May, not end of June...??

Thanks for the info about Korat, I was going to head to Bangkok so that saved me a few baht.

I'm starting to think I binned the arrival/departure cards after a recent clear-out, I didnt consider that I might need them, what with having a stamped(!) passport.

Re: the 60 day extension thing... my sticker visa from Vientiane says on it, 'Enter before 27 June 2013', is that not the date I need to get an extension before then? If so, will send the gf to get some more bread from Tesco lotus...

Enter before means all entries must be made by that date - it is invalid after that date. You needed to get an extension 60 days after you entered Thailand or before so you appear to have overstayed even if you had obtained the 60 day entry unless you get the visa long before you arrived in Thailand.

Missed it before but you do seem to have a bigger problem then initially understood.

I will try to put everything in a row for you, what should have happened and what you should have done:

You applied for a double entry in Vientiane, Laos.

You received this visa, and on the visa is a date stating "enter before 27 June 2013" Which is correct, Vientiane double entry visa's must be used with 3 months from issue.

You then entered Thailand on 30 March 2013, but were given a 15 day visa free entry stamp allowing you to stay until 13 April 2013, instead of a tourist visa stamp.

You actually should have been given a stamp allowing you to stay until 28 May 2013, 60 days from entry into Thailand.

On or before the 28th of May you should have applied for a 30 day extension (1,900 Baht at immigration). This stamp would have allowed you to stay in Thailand until the 26th of June 2013.

You should then have to do a border run to activate the second entry.

As of today you are on 24 days of overstay.

It is Friday, so you cannot go to immigration tomorrow!

Doing a border run now will also be a hassle as you have lost your departure card, which, combined with your overstay, can give you some serious headache at the border.

By Monday you will have a 27 day overstay so below is what you'll have to do:

Go to police station, and report the loss of your departure card. They do not check visa dates, so should not be a problem!

Then go to the immigration department, armed with:

- Report from police to replace departure card.

- Passport sized pictures

- Copies from the picture page of your passport, the page with the Tourist visa and the page with your admitted until stamp received at the border.

- 13,500 Baht for the overstay fine (@ 500 Baht/day)

- 1,900 Baht for your extension.

If all goes well (it should, don't worry too much but dress properly, be polite and be apologetic, eventhough they put the wrong stamp in! Do not argue!!!), then you should receive the 30 day extension counting from the day you SHOULD have left!

Then do your border run.
