I will be taking my son to Lao at the end of the month for a few days. My son is 11 months old and has a British passport. Will he need a visa to enter Lao? We will be travelling without his mother. Could this cause any problems? Will I need a signed letter from his mother?

Thanks, Puyai

Yes, a visa is required. Obtainable at the border.

Does the child has the same last name as yours? If so a copy of the birth certificate should be enough. If not, a small note from the mother together with a signed copy of her ID-card would be best. They do check to prevent child trafficking.

Don't forget the re-entry permit to return to Thailand, if you are on an extension of stay.
