The Royal Flora Expo 2006 to be held in November

The Tourism Authority of Thailand will hold the Royal Flora Expo 2006, to show the capability of the country in growing tropical plants and the agricultural technology of the country. The expo will help support the tourism industry of Thailand.

The Royal Flora Expo 2006 will be held from November 1st 2006 to January 31st 2007 at the Royal Agricultural Research Center in Tambon Mae Hier (แม่เหียะ), Chiang Mai Province. The expo will cover about 470 rai of land, and it will gather many rare varieties of tropical plants in Southeast Asia. 2,200 types of floras and 2.5 million plants will be brought to the expo. The event will also signify the agricultural capability of Thailand, because many unusual plants, herbs, and vegetables will be seen here. The festival will bring Thai agricultural products to the world market.

Another purpose of this expo is to celebrate the 60th year of His Majesty the King’s accession to throne and His Majesty’s 80th royal birthday. It will demonstrate Thailand’s capability in growing tropical plants as well as the country’s technological and innovative developments. The fair will help support the tourism industry and stimulate the economic, social, science and technological sectors. Meanwhile, the theme of this event is “To Express the Love for Humanity”.

The event is deemed to be an important and historical “A1” event by the Bureau of International Exposition and the Association of Horticulture Producers, which are supported by the World Flower Council and the International Society for Horticultural Science. Hence, Thailand is ready in all fields to host this event, especially the size of the areas, the time to organize the event, the information to be presented, and the varieties of plants to be showcased.

This 3-month expo is expected to draw in 2 million visitors from Thailand and abroad, or around 20,000 people per day. It is also expected that tourists will extend their stay during that period. 2,876 million baht is projected to be generated, and Thailand is estimated to gain 15,353 million baht from the visitors. As the host, Thailand would gain 18,411 million baht more, and this does not include other earnings and future exports.
