Hi all,

We are about to embark on the fun journey of applying for my Wife's UK settlement visa. For the most part, I understand what is required, but one part I'm finding a little confusing, is "11 ( b ) A declaration by the account holder(s) of the source(s) of the cash savings."

Whilst I have enough savings alone for her to meet the financial requirement, I'm not quite sure what the declaration is supposed to be. Do they just require a letter from me, stating where the savings came from? Or do they require official documentation to support it? If the latter, I'm not quite sure what to do, as I don't have any documentation. The savings have been in my account for several years (I can supply bank statements going back 2 years), but I no longer have "official proof" of where they came from.

If anyone with more experience has any advice, I'll be grateful, as I'm getting a little worried about it!

Thank you kindly.

Further to Paul's advice above, a letter will be okay, especially if the money has been in the account for some time. It is aimed really at people who suddenly put large sums into their accounts to meet the requirement, and are then asked to confirm the provenance of the funds. Some sources of funds are not permitted under the immigration rules.

Thank you so much for the replies - that's settled my mind a little.

Hopefully, 2 years' worth of statements and a short letter will suffice.

Thanks again - I'm sure I'll probably have more odd questions in the coming weeks
