Pattaya Police arrest Cambodian Family accused of abducting 11 year old Child

PATTAYA:--Officers from the Police Region 2 Child and Women Protection Unit travelled to Larn Island, 4kms off the coast of Pattaya, on Wednesday afternoon, to arrest a Cambodian Husband and Wife who are accused of abducting an 11 year old Thai Child from Rayong Province and forcing the child to work on a construction site.

Officers detained Mr. Sai aged 33 and his wife, Mrs. Wan aged 35, at a construction site on Larn Island after receiving reports from fellow workers of the 11 year old boy who was forced to work on the site and would sometimes be assaulted if he did not complete his work to an acceptable standard.

The boy is thought to have been abducted in November 2012 during the Loy Krathong Festival. He was befriended by the 15 year old son of the Cambodians and persuaded to join them at their temporary home in Rayong Province where he was kept against his will. The next day the family travelled to Larn Island with the boy where they were due to start work on the construction site.

So this is like a postman bites dog story. Usually it is always a Cambodian child who is bought by the Thai mafia, and then turned out for begging in Pattaya. Sorry for the kid though. Wonder what the job superintendent thought when he walked the job site and saw this kid...

The Cambodian Husband and Wife were found not to possess valid work permits or passports and will be deported. Their children and the 11 year old Thai Boy have been taken into care for now by the authorities.

Really hope that's not a 2-for-1 deal now. :(
