Changing Non-O (marriage) to Non-B (work) with WP on hands

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone

I really need an advice, I live in Chiang Rai and for over a hear I have been on a marriage NON-O visa.I extended it once with 400k in a bank account but Iam unable to do this right now. Over the last couple of months I have been working as a teacher in Government school which pays 30k. This is not enough to extend as well as you need 40K salary to extend marriage visa. I dont think immigration officers make exception if you work in Gov school do they?

Now I have 1 year work permit already on my hands its still valid for another 9 months, one of the immigration officers at Central here told me that I can change from NON-O to NON-B with ought leaving the country if I have valid work permit already. Is this true? I really dont want to go to Laos spending a fortune on a trip, if that can be avoided.

Does anyone know if this way is working or if there are other ways to extend marriage visa?

Thank you.

Yes, you can simply apply for an extension of stay based on being a teacher, without the need to leave the country.

You use the same form for your extension, but now fill in employment as teacher instead of marriage, and that is it and now you need to provide the documents for an extension of stay as a teacher.

Mario so I basically need to go to immigration with all my documents from school and my work permit right? Then I take a form for extension of my marriage visa or is there a form for changing visa ? I got a bit confused.

Thanks for your help.

You use the same TM 7 form, but simply now fill in a different reason. (Teaching instead of marriage).

You do not change the visa, only the reason of staying.

just fmi: are you teaching English ?

Mario,

I have heard that to extend visa marriage visa I need to earn 40k a month as a requirement or 400k in bank account for 2 months before extension. My salary is only 30k will it still work?

You will not be extending your permit to stay based upon marriage to a Thai so you do not need to meet the financial requirements for that extension.

You will be getting it based upon teaching which does not have any minimum income requirement. You will have to submit your work permit and documents supplied by the school to get the extension.

See 2.6 or 2.7 of Thai Police Order 777/2551 for the type of extension you will getting verses 2.18 for an extension based upon marriage.

Thank you everyone who contributed, Iam still a bit confused over which docs I WILL need to submit, Iwill bring everything I have. Just want to make sure school wont screw up anything.

1. Application form
2. Copy of applicant’s passport
3. Copy of work permit
4. Letter of confirmation and request for a temporary stay issued by the educational institution,
specifying the applicant’s title, monthly salary rate, and term of employment
5. Copy of a teaching license or a certificate of license issued by the Teacher’s Council of Thailand
or a copy of a letter of waiver issued by the Teacher’s Council of Thailand or a copy of an
acknowledgment of waiver request issued by the Teacher’s Council of Thailand (except for teachers,
instructors, or experts of higher education)

Did this last year..non-O to non-B...Bring in passport, copy of passport face page, copy of previous visa and the most recent entry stamp, copy of white arrival/departure card thingy, copy of diploma, application form, (although they might just put it into the computer directly now), copy of tax receipt if you have worked in Thailand before, contract from school (not sure if you need copies of this....probably...they love copies), letter from your school or school director or some such thing (hopefully the school will know about that), pictures (1 inch, I think....just one, but heck, bring 2 just in case). For good measure, I would bring in the copy of your work permit, but check with the school on that. I had to sign all the copies....there were a bunch. Did it while immigration officer prepared things. 1900 baht, I believe, for the new B visa. They change it right there and you get a whole new year starting then.

Since they are a gov't school, there should be someone who knows if there are other docs, like the school's registry with the ministry of education, etc, that are required (I remember some other docs in Thai that I didn't ask about--helps to have someone from admin go with you, just in case).
