cornishcarlos
Ok, haven't had a look at the tube yet as it just happened. Wanted to know if anyone can guess a reason before I investigate, or if anyone has had a similar experience. Bike is at home, not been used for 2 days. Tyres at 40 PSI front, 45 PSI rear. Kept inside out of the sun. So, just came back inside the house and walked past my bike. Heard 4 or 5 short sharp air bursts and then a continuous air leak. Tyre goes flat in front of me ! Nothing visible on the outside of the tyre to suggest a reason. Any ideas... Will pop the tyre off later and have a proper look. dogpoo
The cheap inner tubes they use here normally give way at the valve, it can happen anytime!
cornishcarlos
Nope, wasnt at the valve but it was a cheap tube... Found just 1 hole on the inside and no sign of anything inside the rim to cause it !! Might get some new rim tape anyway and a couple decent tubes. CobraSnakeNecktie
talcum powder seems to help prevent rims from damaging tubes as much. Just dust up the tube before install. It sounds corny but it does seem to help tube longevity.
fdimike
Talcum powder acts as a dry lubricant and allows the tube to move around without chaffing. One thing to remember though is to thoroughly clean off the powder before attempting a repair as the patch will not stick.
