Non-O Confusion

Featured Replies

G'day,

I have previously applied for a one year non-O multiple entry from Singapore but it was annoying to do visa runs every 90 days.

Recently, a mate of mine applied for the same and he told me he doesn't have that 90 day restriction. He doesn't even have to do the 90 day reporting? He got his in Cambodia.

It's the same visa, what could be the difference? Is there a sub-class of non-O? He mentioned he showed money in Thai banks, but I showed money in foreign banks.

I have been googling but couldn't get a definitive answer, or I do not know what to google for.

I read that there is a 90 day entry, then after you get into the country, go get an extension that is valid for up to a year. Is that the difference?

So I go get the same non-O from Singapore, come into Thailand, and before the 90 day is up, go get an extension and that would give me a year in Thailand without worrying about visa runs or reporting?

thanks

Matt

Upon what basis did you get your visa?

It is possible to get a one year extension of stay at immigration if you can meet the requirements.

I am married to a Thai national.

When you say one year extension, do you mean the entry stamp ? So no reporting nor visa runs? No catch unlike the Non-O which though is 1 year has a 90 day re-entry requirement.

Thanks

Matt

The only visa that would allow longer stay would be the O-A issues for retirement from country of residence. But even with that you must report address to immigration every 90 days unless you travel out of country every 90 days or less.

It is an extension of your 90 day entry. You just do 90 day reports to immigration.

You need 400K baht in the bank for 60 days or proof of 40K baht income to get extension.

Listen to the collective wisdom. No matter what, you've still got to show up at La Migra every 90 days.

You don't have to show up at immigration. You can do it by post. So very easy and convenient. Also anyone can do your reporting for you.

There is no visa that allows you to live here without reporting every 90 days.

And if you do not what to report your life to strangers just go out every 3 months as you did and as it seems to be a lot better.

All the cops of the world have enough information about us, no need to give them more !

Not really true. Varies from Immigration to Immigration. Best advice to do the first in person and ask them if you can do it by post.

If 'anyone' can do that for you...could 'anyone' make the needed copies and sign whatever they're asking for?

It also depends on where you're living.-wai2.gif

You can have spouse/maid/friend or a commercial service do the actual reporting at immigration if you give them permission to do so.

No matter what you will still have to report every 90 days, but you can do it by post or send someonemels to do it for you.

Thanks for your replies.

I live in Chiang Mai, so a 90 day reporting is still better than the drive to Mesai or the flight to Singapore which is costly on SilkAir. Had lousy experiences on AirAsia that I decided not to use them; they are still not that cheap either.

A Resident Permit gives you 5 years with no border runs or 90 day check ins however you need a non immigrant visa for a year then 3 one year extensions to apply.

I didn't know about this before. So that means 3 non O + 3 extensions later?

thanks

Matt

PR requires that you are in Thailand for at least 3 years on continues extensions of stay. But there are other requirements.

As being married to a Thai you will need to work in Thailand with a minimum income of at least 30,000 to 40,000 a month. The higher the income the better.

My wife has made most of my 90 day reports. I just fill out the report sign it and give my passport to her.

Thailand does not have resident permits.

Only permanent residency which has no time limit.

After 90 days with my miss I am glad to go report, I tell her I have to go to Pattaya to report & go on a 4 day bender while I am there.wai.gif

So whats the consensus then? coffee1.gif

On a 1 year multiple entry Non-O marriage visa can you just go to the Immigration department, say for instance here in Chiang Mai, every 90 days or do you need to still do the 90 day border run.

I always assumed it was only retirees and people on work permits that could report to their local immigration department rather than running to the border.

Would love to have this cleared up as would save me a tonne of time each 90 days plus less back pain from cramped up, break neck speed bus journeys.

On a multiple entry non-O you have to leave the country every 90 days.

However, if you qualify you can get a 1 year extension of stay fom immigration, in that case you do not leave the country but report your stay every 90 days.

A non-o visa is not your only option. You can get a 1 year extension of stay at immigration and make 90 day reports to them.

If you have a visa it is border runs every 90 days.
