Norweigian Air Flights to the UK ** Be Aware Thai Nationals **

Featured Replies

Be careful people when booking for Thai Nationals.

This is a cheap flight that can be appealing to some but be aware that if you book it via Oslo > Gatwick you will need an Airport Transit visa for Oslo even if not travelling outside of the airport ( or a Schengen is obviously acceptable if you have that too ) as well as the obvious UK visa and they will deny you access to the flight if you haven't got it.

Don't think just because you're in transit you're ok as you're not.

Via Stockholm its ok but via Oslo you need an extra visa and I would advise against booking the flight because of the extra costings involved with this.

They denied access to maybe 15-20 people on the flight earlier in the week, all of which were Thai Nationals going on to the UK.

I don't think any Norwegian airports have an international transit area so, as you witnessed, a valid visa must be obtained to transit in Oslo.

Sweden only requires certain nationalities to obtain a transit visa, and Thailand isn't one of them.

I'm surprised that the people you witnessed being denied boarding didn't check when they booked, an expensive and disappointing oversight.

To be honest I personally can't remember transiting anywhere ( never been to Norway ) and clearing customs, not off the top of my head anyway.

Of course I'm a British passport holder and if I did need to I'd probably be alright anyway.

But this thread is just a " be careful " thread as the amount of people that didn't get on that flight because of it was simply far too many whatever the reasons were.

"Sweden only requires certain nationalities to obtain a transit visa, and Thailand isn't one of them."

This sentence, in light of what else was said, seems confusing. Presumably Thai nationals ARE required to obtain a transit visa??

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear when I said that "Sweden only requires certain nationalities to obtain a transit visa and Thailand isn't one one of them", I meant to indicate that Sweden only requires certain nationalities to obtain a transit visa and Thailand isn't one one of them. So no, Thais are not required to obtain a transit visa when transiting to a country outside of the Schengen area via a Swedish airport like Stockholm. I'm sorry if I what I said was confusing.

I think the OP was very clear when she said that Thai nationals didn't encounter this issue in Stockholm but did in Oslo, and her helpful post has reminded us of the fact that it's always best to check the visa requirements when purchasing an air ticket.

Oslo isn't in Sweden. I think the OP was just using it as a comparison to highlight that Norway's rules are different.
