I like the system...

It all went so smoothly. I bought a motor scooter the other day and went to put the title into my name. They told me at the MVD that I needed a certificate of residence. So I went on line to the US Consulate and made an appointment for 8:15. I showed up at 8:00. went through the security, and didn't even get a chance to sit down and read my book... I was called to window 1, passed over to window two to pay the fee, then passed on to window three to swear that I was telling the truth, got my form stamped, and was back outside in less than 10 minutes. I like the system.

Then I went back to the MVD to change the vehicle title. I handed my papers to the 'Information Lady' who sorted them out and told me to go next door to get an inspection. Again, no rest for the weary, the Inspector was waiting for me, slapped on the tape and copied the numbers, then passed me on to someone else who did something to the papers before passing on to another person inside the office. I have no idea what she did, but it only took 30 seconds before she told me to go back to the Information Lady, Once again I handed her the papers, which she examined, handed them back to me with a queue number and told me to sit. Yippee! I took out my book but before I got a chance to read it my number was called and I had to bring my papers to the desk. She looked, stamped some papers many times, handed me another number and told me to come back the next day to pick up my title booklet. In and out in less than 15 minutes. I like the system.

You should have bought some lottery tickets. Two different government systems and not a minute to rest. Congratulations.

What did they charge for the certificate of residence at the Consulate?

sounds good

I need to do the same for a motocy but thought I was suppose to get cert of residency at Immigration. Does anybody know if it can be done there too?

Yep, say what you want about govt inefficiency, but the US Consulate in CM is great. They "get it." My experiences have been the same as FolkGuitar's.

The charge was 1,500 Thai Baht. After you clear Security, you enter the area with all the different forms. I picked the most appropriate one, which was just a notary paper confirming my address (rather than something that specifically said 'Certificate of Residency') filled it out and that's what I had to swear was true, got signed and stamped, and what I made copies of to give to the MVD. As it happens, I made color copies of it on heavier paper which made it look like the original. I did have the original with me when I want back to the MVD but they never asked to see it. They just accepted my copy. They weren't pleased that I only had a copy of my passport (they wanted the original) but again, accepted my color copy.

Yes the Thai Immigration are now issuing the Certificate of Residance again .It is now free but can take up to a week ,usually 3 days to process .I got one there 2 weeks ago .

As usual I am depply surpriced over the system. You go to YOUR consulate, and these people, who do not have a clue

of where you are living, confirm your address based on your swearing.... Seems to be quite stupid in my eyes.

Didn´t you have to prove where you are living?? You just swear and hope for the best..... I am even more surpriced that the thai system accept these falseries based on swearing....
