Visa question

Featured Replies

Currently I have a non immigrant B visa expiring on Sept.13.2013.I want to get retirement O visa. The 2 months money in bank requirement period ends on Sept.12.Am I able to apply for the visa on Sept.11(12) or is considered too late. What are my options?

As long as the money has seasoned for the 2 months, it's not too late. You can do it on the last day if necessary but be sure that you have all of the necessary paperwork.

Thanks wayned.Do I have to apply for 90 days non immigrant and retirement visa at the same time,or only for retirement visa since I entered Thailand with a B visa.

All you need is the TM.7 extension of stay for retirement from your current non immigrant visa entry (does not have to be "O") so visit immigration with bank passbook/copies and bank letter and proof of address, 4x6cm photo(s) for TM.7 and 1,900 baht and copies of your passport, visa, entry stamp and departure card. Depending on where you apply if more than one copy needed or if other documents may be asked.

One last question. How striict is the same day bank statement. Can it be done the previous day.If not, can't go early morning to apply. And can this statement be obtained at any branch of my bank?

Edited by endi11

Someone doing in Jomtien will have to answer that - Bangkok very strict as banks have branches located in building but most places as less strict. It will depend on your bank if another branch can issue. Remember you also have to have a letter from bank if you are actually thinking of statements - two different things as most accounts use passbooks rather than statements. Letter of account balance is what you need along with the account details.

I meant letter of account balance, not a statement. My bank is Bangkok Bank.

You can apply for a 1 year Non O Immigrant visa based on retirement, providing you met the criteria, up to 4 weeks before your present visa expires.

A bank letter can be issued up to 7 days prior to the day of your visa extension application. The letter must be obtained from your actual bank branch, not at any other branches that do not hold your accounts.

You will require 800000 baht in your Thai bank account 2 months before your visa extension application date. This must be a sole account in your name only. joint accounts are permitted, but only with your official Thai wife, in which case you will require 1.6 million baht in the bank, double the amount.

7 days will not be acceptable to quite a few Immigration Offices.

Perhaps I'm confusing issues, but I thought if you had a Thai wife then you only had to hold 400,000 baht in the bank.

i.e. half the figure of 800,000, not double the figure of 800,000

Only if the applicant is applying for a Non Immigrant O visa as on the basis of being married to a Thai, but in this case the OP is applying for a Non Immigrant O visa on the basis of retirement, which means 800000 baht is required to be held in a Thai bank account or the equivalent of pensionable income per year.

This amount is required solely to be held by the visa applicant, which means 800000 baht in his name only and not divided as part owned by a wife, hence the double amount required if the account is held in joint names with a Thai spouse. No other joint accounts with anyone other than a spouse is acceptable.

Then you are applying based on being married, not based on being retired. Different rules and paperwork apply to that, but indeed only 400,000 would be needed. (But you cannot use a combinaiton of income and money in the bank as you can with retirement).

A retirement extension is 800k regardless of being married or not and if a joint account accepted it would indeed have to be double that amount to comply with joint property provisions of Thai marriage laws to show 800k was yours - but even with that provision immigration might not accept anything but a single name account.

And one technical question. My deadline for applying is Sept.13.I would like to apply as soon as possible in order,if something goes wrong,to have plenty of time to fix it.Bank money will season on Sept.12.If regulation is 2 mo.that is when I have to apply, but if regulation is 60 days,I can apply on Sept.9.So what is it 2mo. Or 60 days?

first time apllication is 60 days, every extension after that it is 3 months.
