Pheu Thai confident that Rice Pledging Scheme has improved farmers' quality of life

BANGKOK, 15 July 2013 (NNT) -- Pheu Thai Spokesperson Prompong Nopparit has urged critics of the rice pledging scheme to only use the truth as their points of arguments, not fabricated news which will only tarnish the good name of the nation’s rice industry.

Mr. Prompong made the call in response to the recent harsh comment made in the social media by famous TV Host Sutthipong Thammavut which said rice circulating in the market was contaminated with toxic residues.

Mr. Prompong claimed that such an accusation is merely an attempt to attack the government's policy, adding that it could have, if not already, ruined the kingdom's image. He then urged related agencies to punish the ill-intent wrongdoers in the case.

The ruling party's spokesperson also urged a Democrat MP for Phitsanulok, Dr. Warong Dejkitvikrom, to stop criticizing the government on the rice pledging scheme without any concrete evidence. He said that Dr. Warong's action has a negative impact to Thailand as a rice exporter nation, and to Thai citizens who would lose confidence in consuming Thai rice.

He said that any action to scrutinize the government should be based on truth and sincerity and made through parliamentary proceedings only.

Even if this claim was true, what was the cost of this improvement?

How much have the politicians proposing the policy benefited?

"He said that Dr. Warong's action has a negative impact to Thailand as a rice exporter nation, and to Thai citizens who would lose confidence in consuming Thai rice."

Of course..."Confidence" .. That's how people determine which rice they will purchase. Quality and price don't factor into the equation at all. It is probably better for Prompong Nopparit to remain silent and let people think he's a total idiot, than to make such statements and remove all doubtrolleyes.gifrolleyes.gifrolleyes.gif

Do any of these spokespersons actually think before opening their mouths? Do they not realise how stupid their statements are? Don't criticise a economically disastrous policy because people may notice how badly we have f----d up the country's rice industry.

That's pretty much it. The problem is they are trying to shift the blame onto those that criticise it. The whole thing it is everyone's fault but the government it was working fine until it was exposed by others.

This is just the rules of the road for this government. If they say something it must be right and any opposition must be wrong.

The Government says

"He said that any action to scrutinize the government should be based on truth and sincerity and made through parliamentary proceedings only."coffee1.gif

Instead of telling others what they should do why does he not come out with facts given by the small rice farmers themselves as to how much they have benefited from the scheme.whistling.gif

No defense what so ever after over a year of skimming the public money.sad.png

parliamentary proceedings onlycheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

LOL. Thais just do not fully understand the concept of Free Speech.

The crime is only committed in Thailand once you have been publicly stated as having committed it. Until then it's just malicious rumour.

Moral judgement isn't a strong point in this country.

My wife's family has 35 rai of rice fields. They are just as poor as they were 10 years ago. No difference. Still farming rice and making very little money from it.

Quite possibly the worst ever press release. One which only highlights the utter feckless desperation of the government. And they have the nerve to all for truth to be that truth be the basis for any criticisms - Go ahead then - back at ya - How about some truth on the G2G deals then. Costs, volumes etc.

Nonsense from a nonsense government

The government spokesman asking their opponents to only speak the truth....!

All that's missing from Thai politics is the sound effects machine.

Let's punish those who speak out about this wonderful scheme that has dramatically enhanced the lifestyle the countries poor. cheesy.gifcheesy.gif oh please your killing me. Why not go after those that have really profited out of this wonderful world leading scam scheme. The only people who have ruined the countries image are those that created this farce and not those that oppose it.

The fish stinks from the head!

Thank you.

that is the kind of farmers I would prefer to hear from not the big ones wyho are used to launder money. Or all the middle men.

The government might not even be aware of the little farmers.

"only use the truth as their points of arguments"

For 2011/2012 we spent 352 billion, we sold for 59, still have 156 so it would seem we still need to find a good reason (aka the truth) for the 137 billion which went 'missing'.

Aw com'on now guys. Sometimes a little "white lie" is needed to boost confidence! Obviously learned this from the Finance Minister, PM/DM and indeed the big boss himself.

Any sentence containing the words "Pheu Thai" and "confident" should be treated with caution. No doubt some "poor" farmers will be trotted out soon to praise PTP for enriching their lives.

The truth about how much this has cost the country and who has really benefited will never be released. More chance of revoking illegally issued passports (or even answering questions on that topic).

Isn't Prompong Nopparit Thaksin's legal adviser? This, coming from a person who has never told the truth as far as I can recall, is hypocrisy.

In addition, why would Thais have less confidence in eating Thai rice? They don't have a real choice - although they might well be eating Cambodian rice without knowing it.

Yes it has improved my quality in life and I guess a few others as well, the queen of England looks very well , Thaskin Shinawatra looks very well ,although lonely, and the dog down the street looks well as well, it is beyond belief that the rice farmers lot has improved , the last time that happened was when Abihist was PM.and released a few goodies that I guess have been axed , I can only think of one word to describe the PTP administrations effort so far in supporting the Farmers of Thailand bah.gif , damaging.

The heading of this story should read -

Pheu Thai realizes all too late that Rice Pledging Scheme has exposed their pathetic government for the crooks they are which will result in the people overthrowing the government which will eventually improve farmers' quality of life.

I'll be up early tomorrow (Tuesday) to catch the next instalment on this rice pledging debacle. Can't wait to hear what the next media release is.
