Driving CM-BKK via Phitsanulok or Tak ?

Featured Replies

Couldn't find recent thread on this. Any opinions on this would help, drove up via Tak but seem to recall reading that going the other way via Phitsanulok was better on the journey down to BKK. Not taking in the views just aiming for a quick drive. Thanks.

Tak definately

Tak. The Highway 1 via Tak and Kamphaeng Phet is way straighter and flatter than Highway 11 via Phitsanulok.

Just plug it into Google Maps / Google Navigation.

The 1 sucks bad from Nakon Sawam to Tak and further. A lot of damaged concrete , the noise of the seams between the concrete. If you drive fast and stay in the right lane , it is a little better.

The 11 has more curves, and goes up and down but is a very nice road , now that it is about finished.

From Lampang to Phitsanulok is the best. From Uttradit it is flat all the way to Bangkok. The 117 from Phitsanulok to Nakhon Sawan , is not that great ,

but better than the 1.

Don't take the 11 from Phits to Inburi , small road and not so good.

I haven't done it recently so there is always a chance of road works with tar and rocks against the car.

Definitely Tak . Phitsanulok for the driving experience.

Phitsanuluk is the best way IMO.

#1 is long and boring. Nakhon Sawan is a PITA to get through.

If you want to go straight through, then yes. But if you take the bypass road, then no.

I second your reply. I have never experienced the slightest delay when using the bypass passing thro N.S.

As others have said, Tak, 100% the quickest route (but boring) and the new bypass around Nakhon Sawan is a real time saver.

Thanks for the input folks. I took the Tak route, it was quick and the Nokon Sawan by pass is indeed a lifesaver smile.png

I really enjoyed my drive from CM to Tak through the mountains. Lots of places to stop and eat and get a bottle of gas at the same time. I came back on the super highway and it was a drag. Dangerous too with those dont give a damn black SUV's. Stay in the bike lane and enjoy the scenery rather than the fast lane. Met some great Thai guys on superbikes at most of the gas stops. They were traveling together fast.
