We have all heard it before, that sometimes the clerk in Penang only gives 'new-commers' ([to Penang] a 3 month Non-O visa insted of the applied 1 year. It doesn't matter if one has 1 or 10 from other embassies.

I just came back from Penang (used agent, Manaff) and he rightly warned me before that the clerk 'might be having a bad day' and therefor only give 3 months, and that it had increased.

And he was right, all Non-O-newbies got their Non-O back as 3 months today. (Saw them myself as I was the first to get the passport back from Manaff.)

So, just a little warning...or hint...or heads up so you might not be dissappointed.

They sure like to make up rules to screw around with farangs.

Looks like Penang are getting miffed with being 'The' place for visas :o

KL are still doing 12 month non-o visas (marriage) with no hassle and no gigantic queues.

The embassy is an easy walk from the Putra LRT at Ampang Park.

Things have changed since Manaff got me a 12 month O multiple entry in November. But I had the pension letter from my embassy, a new passport, and proof of 200,000 baht in a Thai bank.

As a former government document checker, I guess it still depends upon what you bring to the table, what the official's attitude is on that day, and what their boss thinks are the rules.

And yes, the embassies and MFA have employees who read these websites. Perhaps we should stop publishing which consulates are the easiest, and reserve those names to PM's.

The application was Non-O (married), and yes, I had all the papers and then some. =)

I assume the other applicants had aswell, but it didn't matter.

And yes, perhaps they are getting 'tired' of issuing the visas and hope the 3month-crazy will slow down the trafic some...even though this means I will have to go there in another 3 months again...

Granted that the cost for everything isn't _that_high (some 10-15K baht), but it's a very boring 3 days...
