There's an old thread from 2011 about these and on the strength of it I had a friend bring over a selection of their 773 connectors and they look really good. I can't post to the old thread to find out how Crossy's sparks got on with them and how reliable the supplier was so here's a new one.

The electrical sub-contractor was impressed with the sample I showed him this afternoon so I'm going to try and get enough so he has no excuse to use any other method when they start the actual wiring. He wants to use his own plastic junction boxes as the conduit fits inside and it makes for a neater job (he says).

A couple of questions:

  • I bought several types as samples but it seems to me that the two and three wire devices are the most useful in a domestic installation.
  • I have a lot of downlights and, although I've not selected the exact fitting, I recall most have stranded wire which sometimes has a "tunnel and screw" type connector on the end awaiting the supply. It looks as if the 224 series below or possibly the clamp type 222 are better for this application. Any thoughts?

  • When using these to install a downlight they wouldn't need to be in a box, or would they?
  • Installing a double outlet on a circuit will require 3 x 3 wire connectors (773-173) but switches will need 2 wire connectors, the number depending on 2 way/3 way etc?

They are going to use crimped connections if I can't come up with these but as someone pointed out in the old thread, these do inspire confidence!

For those who are interested in using these, here are the prices I got today. Figures in brackets are per piece including sales tax where unavoidable but no delivery.

I can only think that the three way (773-103) is so much more expensive that the two way because it has a higher rating.

US Power's number is 02 276 3044.
