Popular Post Mario2008 Posted July 17, 2013 Popular Post Posted July 17, 2013 This weekend will be an extra long weekend, as Monday 22 and Tueday 23 July are government holidays. That maens that these days immigration will be closed, as will Thai embassies and general consulates. Note that there is some confusion about the 23rd being a government holiday or not, not all calenders mark it as such nor do all (government) websites. If you want to use an embassy in Thailand or use a Thai embassy/consulate, make sure they are open or not. Being a long weekend, comming Friday the 19th and Wednesday the 24th will be very busy. If your permisison to stay ends during the holiday, you do not have to pay for overstay if you apply for an extension of stay on the 24th. But it is always best to apply for an extension early. Extensions start on the day the current permisison to stay ends. Have a nice holiday. 3
Thormaturge Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 We are being warned about government offices being short-staffed from 18th.
DennyEagle Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Can I cross into Laos from Nong Khai on the 22nd? Thanks
lopburi3 Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 The crossing will be open as normal if that is your question.
slipperylobster Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Good info. My extension will then be done tomorrow. I think there will be a long wait if I try to do that on Friday (short staff) or especially the days right after the long holiday. Udon immigration office is usually very quick....otherwise.
Torrens54 Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Ahead of the Holidays, it was HELL at CNX Immigration today. We arrived about 07:30 and joined the snake-tail winding half way around the car park. Staff were hard at it from 8am, till lunch time (still beats me as to why EVERYONE has to go to lunch at high Noon) but to make matters worse, there were a number of Inconsiderate Idiots who got a "service number" when the place opened and then "went missing." When their numbers came up, these clowns were "No shows" and the Thais being as polite as possible, obviously waited and waited for them to front up. This meant of course, that everyone else was delayed even further. While I'm on the subject of Immigration at CNX, is anyone else a little peeved at the dress mode of some of the "Clients" who turn up there? Some of them need to start with a good wash and then wear some decent clothing. I don't need to see their bulging, flabby naked body parts overflowing from their stinking shorts and tops. Nor do I want to see large ugly Tatts on men and women who behave like pigs when they come to Thailand. Keep all of that for displaying to your Filthy Friends back home and the sooner you go back home, the better for all concerned. Now, have a nice day! 1
MILT Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Torrens54 so on top of these ("greasy fingers and wearing shappy cloths, Hey Aqualung") people having to wait through the day like everyone else there, they have to endure folks like yourself passing judgment on the unknowing. I'll be sure to wear my Tux from now on just in case we are there the same day, and your welcome sir/madame and thank you very much. I hope this gesture will make your days better at Immigration. But you know what really gets my buckle?................... 1

Mario2008 Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 Banks are reportedly closed on the 22nd, but open on the 23rd according to the Bank of Thailand webiste. Banks in shopping malls are often open on holidays, when normal branches are closed.
slipperylobster Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Got that 30 day extension done this morning...only took 30 minutes. Thanks for the heads up, as next week will surely be a pain, with the backlog over the holiday. Feel real good about it all. Udon is putting in a new system and had a full staff (some new). Friendly and efficient...no problems

lopburi3 Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Normal policy for banks is three days closed is the limit without special exception - there should be normal bank operations on Tuesday AFAIK and there calendars seem to agree.
Colabamumbai Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Thai Consulate Vientiane closed July 22 and 23rd.
