Chang Dao (Nest 1 and 2), Phayao, Pai, Chiang Rai and Lampang. All within 3 hours drive and all worth at least a night to me.

You are smart, because who wants to be out driving on a long weekend.

CM for me is beautiful enough.

I have the mountain, and the good food, the computer and TV

Plenty more I cannot list here so as not to bore you.

But, CM is where I will stay, with plenty of food and the birds, and the sounds of the birds singing in the morning.

Many Thanks to @Thailand- now I know what the holiday is all about.

Thanks.

Hmong hilltribe homestay at the top of Doi Nonghoi, less then an hour away but a real paradise. Love that place.

Seriously, are you joking ?

Chiangmai hurts my eyes wherever I go.

Well, maybe you need to change your stomping grounds.

Where I live in Chiang Mai, it is seriously beautiful

Trees, Jungle, Birds, the Mountain, the sound of the rain,

No cars where I live, just a few dogs and they stopped barking so much these days.

My eyes don't hurt,

I love Thai food, and it is here within a 2 minute's walk.

I've got the internet, and aircon, a new building with a toilet and a shower.

No, my eyes do not hurt a bit.

It is cheap as all get-out, compared to where I am from in Taipei, where they have real smog, real junk housing, serious traffic that makes your eyes hurt and turns your nostrils black.

What's not to love about Chiang Mai?

The only thing I miss while enduring CM is there is no authentic NEW YORK DELI.

But that is a small price to pay for all this beauty around me.

So would I spend a dime on the fuel to take me anywhere during this 4 day holiday?

Nope.

But if you would, more power to you, and tell us about your trip when you return.

I hope you go to the higher elevation mountains, which is where I dearly wish to go.

Some day I will go.

Butter is Better has really good corned beef, pastrami, rye bread and New York cheesecake. That is a pretty good start.

I, too, feel sympathy for you-you are obviously over here against your will, sent here by your employer I suppose-I hope the placement is not for too long.

Hope it is that really dense rye bread, without all the air, and with the chewy rye bread crust,

And so fresh you can smell the rye comin'

Like the Catcher in The Rye catching loaves,

Way down the aisle before you get there.

Monday and Tuesday ,the 22nd and 23 rd are Holidays .

I have two calenders the one from the Bank of Siam only shows Monday the 22 as a holiday. Maybe they will be open then. The other one from a Thai bank shows 22nd and 23rd. The wife tells me on the 23rd they take a candle to the temple. She says it is lent.

Oh yeah, rings a bell- Kow Paen Sa as opposed to Auk Paen Sa- if I remember correctly-my ex-wife would give up alcohol for a couple of months.

Is this another 'no drink for sale' holiday?
