Cinnamon and Honey

Recommended Posts

A friend told me that he had to have his hip replaced so he started taking a spoonful of each in the morning in hot water. Now he say's his hip is as good as new.

Does any one have any experience with this.

I looked up Cinnamon on the internet and it had nothing but good things to say about it.

Honey on the other hand was a mixed bag of responses. Hard to pin it down as their is over a thousand different honeys. The only one mentioned was one from New Zealand.

Also being a diabetic is a point against using honey.

Another friend told me that Honey would raise the cholesterol level.

Any first hand experience or knowledge would be appreciated.

I have n personal experience, but check this site out

http://www.newrealities.com/index.php/articles-on-health/item/532-the-healing-benefits-of-cinnamon-honey

Sent from my i-mobile IQ 6 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

thanks for the link. I have not read it all but so far it has pretty well confirmed that cinnamon is a great product with all kinds of benefits. I am going to have to look a little deeper into the source and processing of it.

As for honey I will have to look farther into it. First it says it should not be heated then it says mix with warm water.

I know there is over 1,000 kinds of honey in the world. It depends on what the source is the Bee's use to form it. the closest I have come to knowing what to get is get as pure a honey as possible. It would be handy to know some one who raises bee's.

As I said I have Diabetes and have read regarding honey mixed reports about that also.

Can you share a little of your personal experience with them?

The list on the website looks like the list of complaints that I had the last time I went to the doctor. Guess that I'll start taking the cinnamon and honey and see what happens. Most likely it will only contribute more to my obesity.

Well obesity did seem to play a large part on the anti Honey side.

Being a Diabetic it is not a good idea all though I did find some sites that said it would not hurt you as it is not the same kind of sugar. I was in Tops today and saw a jar of Honey for 99 baht that had a big chunk of honey comb in it. I wonder if that means the rest of the Honey was natural.

Apparently not a lot of people have experience with either or both of them.sad.png

Sorry, HD.

I really think that anyone who might require a hip replacement should seek out the best science based medical advice possible.

And also, if anyone has diabetes and should limit their sugar intake, then the negative effects of increasing sugar intake will not be offset by any real or imagined positive effects of Honey to ameliorate or lessen inflammation and hip joint pain. Do Not treat the symptoms, when you should cure the cause in this case.

Science based medicine in Thailand is extremely good and relatively very low cost.

We should take advantage of our good luck in being in Thailand, and use this resource if we feel ill or need medical attention.

I wish you well because hip joint pain can be extremely painful, and can also be debilitating causing significant loss of quality of life.

I do not know too much about this type of joint degeneration/deterioration, but do you not think that the sooner you really get sience based medical attention, then the sooner you can fix the problem for real, and then get on with your life, pain free?

Hope you can soon find a science based solution so that you can recover quickly and, again,

Live a Little, pain free.

(Weight of course, is a big factor in keeping the new joint from wearing out too fast, perhaps. Also, too much weight will put stress on your other joints and spine. But, if you can't loose the weight, and who can at the drop of a hat, then seek out that good science based medical solution.)

Too bad we are not getting any younger,

Rather than the reverse.

A teaspoon full of honey does not have a lot of carbs, so you can just cut down a little on something else with carbohydrates. Personally, I don't believe that it will help ones hip, but if one sticks to a small amount of honey and is willing to forgo some other carbohydrates, it won't hurt.

Professional help here is like all over the world good and bad and the good can often disagree with each other. I saw a specialist here In Chiang Mai who worked for the Mayo clinic in the states for four years he said replace it. I then saw another specialist who said these young doctors always want to replace every thing.

The funny thing about it was this doctor had been one of the other doctors Professor's and several years ago When I had seen him about my foot I asked him about my knee and my hip. At the time the hip was not that big a deal. He said I could get arthroscopic surgery on the knee but he was to old to do that delicate of a job so he recommended the other doctor who he said was the best in Thailand at it. This doctor is now pretty much retired. He gave up his clinic and works out of the most expensive hospital here in Chiang Mai. He is only there two days a week and only for four hours. I have great respect for his opinion. When I went to see him about my foot He said there really wasn't any thing they could do that was practical. It would be to fuse it and in this case it would involve lengthening the two leg bones by at least an inch. No other Doctor had explained that to me. The two surgeons who had done the original operation just said if you can take the pain don't do the surgery. 15% of the time fusing the joint dosen't work. They never explained the complexity of my case to me. The old doctor here said he had only seen it done once in 40 years.

I don't even understand it. The X ray showed arthritis in both hips and even I could see the right hip was the worst. Yet it causes me no pain it is all in the left hip. The radiologist said I had a level 2 arthritis in both hips and a level 3 in the knee. I forgot to ask which level is the worst. At any rate the Old doctor said he could get me a good rate on an MRI. so I will do that and see what it turns up.

In the mean time I am looking for the easy way out. and judging from the response here the Honey and Cinnamon is not it.

raw honey has relatively low gi value, it will be fine for your insulin in moderation. you should avoid pasteurized ones.

Honey is what mothers used to use for cough syrup and it really works.

All I know about it is that it must be raw and unfiltered (pollen left in.) Bee pollen is also used by some as a health food.

I have no idea about the arthritis part or diabetic affects or anything else.

I do know that there is a shot that is given once every six months into an arthritic joint which works for a lot of people and I have friends who swear by it.

Good luck with your tests.

Just a quick note on cinnamon:

The cinnamon found in China and Thailand can be toxic in small amounts because of a compound it contains called coumarin, the cinnamon product from Ceylon does not contain that same compound (or at least it exists in very small quantities), best be careful because reports of liver damage are in abundance.

We buy our honey locally from people that regularly come and rid our orchard of bee hives. I have two bottles in the cabinet now,. The bottles still have the hong thong label on them, but they contain real honey. As far as diabetes, I have the symptoms and most likely have type 2 diabetes, but never have been tested.

WOW.... thanks for that... I'd never heard that news before... But indeed, I see it's been reported in serious scientific journals... not just quackery...

As someone who likes cinnamon raisin bread and adding cinnamon as flavoring on my cereal, it's disturbing....

For one thing, the articles seem to say it can cause a problem in people with livers that are "sensitive" to coumarin... But no way to know whether you're sensitive or not.

And second, there's the expensive real cinnamon and the inexpensive cassia cinnamon... I have bulk cinnamon bought at a grocery chain in the U.S. (not Thailand or China). But I have no way to know what type of cinnamon it is or where it was sourced from.

Although, it wasn't expensive for the quantity I bought, so presumably it's the cassia cinnamon. But even then, apparently, not all varieties of that contain high levels of coumarin... So how are you supposed to know if the cinnamon you've got is problematic...

Cinnamon comes from the bark of trees and is sold as sticks or powder in the country of origin. Ceylon cinnamon grows in Sri Lanka, Madagascar and the Seychelles, while Cassia cinnamon comes from Indonesia and China. Previous studies have linked coumarin intake to liver damage in a small number of sensitive individuals.

True cinnamon has very little coumarin, unlike Cassia cinnamon. A 2010 German study found that on average, Cassia cinnamon powder had up to 63 times more coumarin compared to Ceylon cinnamon powder, while Cassia cinnamon sticks contained 18 times more than Ceylon cinnamon sticks.

The researchers in this latest study also reported that coumarin, a naturally-occurring substance, may cause liver damage in some sensitive people.

512px-Cinnamomum_Verum_vs_Cinnamomum_Bur

Ceylan cinnamon (left) has much less coumarin than Cassia cinnamon (right)

The authors wrote:

"As found in this study, coumarin was present, sometimes in substantial amounts, in cinnamon-based food supplements and cinnamon-flavored foods."

According to health officials, consumers cannot tell the difference between Ceylon and Cassia cinnamon in powder form. Cinnamon sticks look different though - Cassia cinnamon sticks consist of a thick layer of rolled bark, while Ceylon cinnamon sticks have thin layers.

Also:

Then lastly:

Norwegian research carried out last years also showed that people should consume no more than 0.07 mg per kg of bodyweight per day.

These researchers said that by using cinnamon on oatmeal or other cereals just a few times a week, children and adults could could easily go over this limit.

Researchers stated that even a few weeks of ingesting high amounts of coumarin can be dangerous to health.
