hi to all,

reading some threds of late, and the replys,

i dont think some members on TV would be happy were ever they lived,

all countrys have there good points and there bad, good areas to live and bad ones, good people and not so good,

its down to the person to find were they can be happy, in a city surounded by trafic, in the country surounded by rice fields,

its all your choice,

but please can we try and stop knocking thailand and the people,?

yes the BIB are bent, its good for us in some ways, 4 pounds if you get cought speeding, give me that any day,

we chose to live here, nobody held a gun to my head and said jake you will go and live there in thailand,

i met my wife and made that choise myself,

if it went wrong or i found i didnt like it hereany more, ide go back to the uk, or find somewere i might be happy,

im lucky i still work, so i have the chance to have the craic with the lads,

to close this,

just have a think about things before pulling all down and there dogs,

you made the choice to live here, same as i did,

dont blame others for something you chose to do,

thailand is a beautiful place,

jake

But you forget that some of us are whinging Brit's and we moan about everything day in and day out no matter where we are, even when our Cricket team is thrashing the Aussies. We even moan about you moaning about us.

Seriously though; Life is what you make it wherever you may be, it's an individual thing and some people are just miserable gits and enjoy being so.....live and let live.

As a newbie (signing up) I used to read comments every now and then and I didn't think much about it. I've been with the same Thai for 22 years and married 5, we are in the same profession and work beside each other 4 or 5 days a week in our home country and we talk about Thailand daily warts and all, family issues, when should we retire where will be settle et al. We talk more about Thailand than our own country.

This is the longest time we've spent here just over 3 months now and will probably head back in October as we sold our business so this trip was to relax, after a few weeks of hearing thai non stop I started to read and think more - and honestly it's gotten to me on occasion the negativity towards Thailand and I started to question myself was I dreaming abroad.

I got barked at for quoting lines from a few posts and I started this quest for western food, villa, foodland, max valu, gourmet - every day I would venture out on my own and bring back my finds spending 5k a go, just the other day someone quoted a food I like and I asked for my phone in bed to see if there was an update. I was barked at again - at home we eat Asian and Thai food 6 days a week and since our arrival in Thailand we've eaten at no less than 30 farangs restos the fridge is full of farang food and you are forcing my parents to eat lamb. I felt like a real <deleted>.

There is a thread running about what "we" have to give up being an expat which was of interest then I started to think shame on me, what do Thai's who live abroad give up ? I think they sacrifice a lot more.

I really do enjoy reading and contributing but I think some people just aren't happy unless everyone is unhappy, it's time for me to remember happy times and happy thoughts and start eating more Thai food.

I really do love it here I just need to learn not to be so heavily influenced.

Anyone want to buy a leg of lamb ? just kidding

Yet another post telling us what opinions it is acceptable for us to hold and express.

  • Popular Post

OP and anyone else who feels the need to tell others what opinions are acceptable try this test.

Do what I do..... get out of bed, spend your day doing whatever it is you do, at the end of the day go back to bed and ask yourself 'did the opinions anyone else express have any impact on how I personally experienced the day that just past?"

My guess is they have not.

If they have then perhaps those opinions are expressing something you yourself know to be true but do not want to face.

Either way, the opinions in and of themselves are mere words - harmless to anyone who is truly comfortable with the choices they themselves have made.

I'm confused, you express a negative opinion about people who express their dissent about negative opinions because the negative opinions either have no effect or are too close to the bone

Yes, you are confused.

I have not expressed a negative opinion, though you perhaps do not like what I have said.

I my opinion there is a very vocal minority, who make it seem like TV is a negative place to hangout, when it really isn’t. The vast majority of posters aren’t that bad. Most of the time I don’t find it all that difficult to ignore the negative stuff. The glass is half full as far as I am concerned.thumbsup.gif

Well you certainly weren't jumping for joy about it, your first post although carefully worded leaves no doubt about your thoughts, which I was not confused about, just about your purpose on this particular thread when there are many others more worthy of a man of your talents

Why not for a change try to post something new ? whistling.gif

Your posts keep repeating the same old mantras over and over again ! Gets a little boring after a while.

PS. You forgot to mention the pigs and the profitsharing with MIL. coffee1.gif

I don't know Soi 41, I kind of like finding out new ways of spelling, haha Jake I know all about that mate. But how you could spell beer wrong (bear) had me flummoxed.

  • Author

soi41,

we dont have pigs anymore,

ill go and get a batch when i get home, simply because i like looking after them, better then sitting in a bar all day,

OP, why did you leave your home country?

Found fault with it?

Just curious.

jake's a good speler he spelt craic corect wich means loads of bear

Jake

I saw some pigs in Wang Nam Yen, the other day on our way to a Monk party near Khao Chakan, the guy looking after them is in a band that travels around on a ute doing these parties and they camped at our place the previous night after a party in our village, then invited us to a party the next day for their guitarist who was going to be a monk for a while. It looks like hard work to me. He had about 5 big ones and a sow with a litter of about a dozen plus another one ready to deliver

OP, why did you leave your home country?

Found fault with it?

Just curious.

This should be intersting.

OP, why did you leave your home country?

Found fault with it?

Just curious.

my home country is england,

the reason i left it,

first i will say i was happy in england, and still am when i go back, as some will know im from farming stock and my mum still has a small place with just over 5 achre with 2 horses which i still enjoy riding, so i do miss that when im in thailand

there are many things i miss when im in thailand, i miss the craic with the lads, miss taking my son fishing, lots of things,

but im happier in thailand,

there is no reason why i left the uk, im not running away from anything, i pass all police checks for visas when i work i different countrys, so im not running away,

its a hard question though,

see if i start saying i love to look after my animals, without the restraint of the british government saying i cant do that and i cant move that,

im not saying we wouldnt move to the uk as a family of course, my mum has been asking if we would move back, take on the small holding, but im happy in thailand,

yes i do repeat it,, so what, if that upsets some like guesthouse and soi 41, dont have to read what i put,

there there isnt a reason why i left the uk, apart from i met my wife fell head over heals in love and thought, thats were im going to live, i can still do my work and base myself in thailand, dosnt matter were i live, i work all over the world,

so i sold my house, and here i am, nice and settled in thailand,

jake

I never left my home country because of fault with it - except perhaps lack of opportunity - in fact, I've always moved for the job, not the country, Like most Scots, I believe my country to be the best in the world, to the extent that I may one day live there.

If I lived there, where would I go on holiday?

SC

EDIT: Thanks, PJ, but you have the best of both worlds - working in Scotland and living in Thailand; Oh, to be working in the shadow of the Fourth Crossing!

scottlands been good to me,

allways plenty of work both onshore and offshore,

being english i have allways been made welcome, i get on with everyone,

im a gaffer here in whites, but the welders who work for me give me respect the same as i do them, they no i came of the tools and can do the job,

most things in this world are about respect, getting it and giving it, weather at work or at home,

when i come to work here in the uk i look at it as a holiday, i get to see my family and freinds and still get paid a very good wage, so i am very lucky in that way, that why i took this job 3 years ago,

i could work anywere, ive just this last week turned down a good job in ghana after a skype interview, a job in south africa,

im happy coming here, like i say to see my family and freinds and earn money,

im 53, some might say old i dont,(well i wouldnt would i), im building the future of my kids, both in thailand and in the uk, i could retire now, but wouldnt be able to leave then a good leg up when ive gone, there my children i brought them into this world its my job to take care of them, same goes for my wife, its my job to take care of her too,

jake,

ill carry this on later when im in the office,,lol

People arrive at happiness in different ways. For some its the sheer pleasure of being disagreeable and for others its the cut and thrust of gladiatorial exchanges on TV. Thailand is a beautiful place and has much to commend it. The same is true of the UK. Being happy isn't just the superficial processes of laughing, smiling and being agreeable. In truth its about a deep inner contentment. When I find myself unhappy in Thailand or indeed in England its usually because I am under occupied. For me the secret of happiness is having something meaningful and constructive to do. TV is a good place to hang out if you are bored and if the negative people annoy you then you can enjoy rattling their cages. They too will enjoy being provoked and you will give them something to be angry about.smile.pngsmile.png

Thanks, Raj.

PJ: My apologies for adding the EDIT after your Like; I hope that doesn't change you ropinion.

I don't think that it's unreasonable to say that for any choice, there are some negatives, some things that one gives up - as Guesthouse suggested, but nevertheless, one may still forego those advantages for other reasons.

Some posters have said "Everyone is here for sex" and others have said "We're all on the run from something"; of course, we can all deny that - I often deny that I am drunk, married, or stupid... with enough drink inside us, we can deny anything. But it would perhaps do us more good to consider not whether, but how does that apply to me?

I moved to Thailand for a number of reasons, but the winning reason was to get away from head office and head office politics; to set up my own empire within the company somewhere remote, because I knew that I could not compete or fight with the sharks in head office. Realising that weakness has helped steer me in future career choices - choices more successful than my move to Thailand.

SC

We all stay, or stayed, in thailand because we feel better there than back home. That is what binds us. The reasons why we actually moved are not relevant. Each there own !
