Summer thunderstorms hit much of Thailand

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's Meteological Department forecast that severe thunderstorms and strong winds in most parts of the country, due to a high pressure ridge stretching from China.

The department warned residents in the north, northeast, east, and the central regions to brace for thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hail.

Some areas or about 30 per cent of the northern region, Bangkok and its surrounding areas face hot weather, widespread thunderstorm and strong winds.

Hail hit some parts of the northern region particularly Chiang Mai, Tak, Uttaradit, Phetchabun, and Phitsanulok.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected in 60 per cent of the northern region especially in Chaiyaphum, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, and Ubon Ratchathani.

The central, eastern and southern regions face widespread thunderstorms in some areas.
