Whenever i let the internet on for a few hours without using it my Avast Pro detected a Trojan .

But if im exploring the internet for few hours non stop it did not detect any virus..

So any idea why it detect trojan virus when the internet is On without me using it...

The trojan may be 'calling home' - trying to send some information it has lifted from your machine back to someone else, or just letting them know that your machine is now vulnerable, trying to spread itself further or god knows what.

I guess that you are using dial-up with a modem instead of ADSL/router?

The detection of this "trojan" is probably related to "pinging" by your ISP. This "ping" can be useful and many ISPs use automated ping operations to monitor their connections. Your Security Software (antivirus or firewall) could be detecting this as an attempted "intrusion". Previously, Norton Internet Security software would do the same for me every time CS Loxinfo pinged my computer. It would even identify the address and location of the would-be 'intruder'.

If their pinging is unsucessful, your ISP may take measures to correct whet they believe to be a non-functional connection, like disconnecting you. There are also cases when certain software makes use of ping operations for their normal functioning and these may believe that your computer is no longer responding. So, active surfing confirms that your connection is functioning and idling causes the ISP to send you a ping to check.

Perhaps the most simple protection measure against identifying your computer as active through the ping operation, is to disable the ICMP protocol.....but that's for another posting.

In summary, don't worry about it...your security software and your ISP are both woking for you.
