July 30, 201312 yr Thai sell farang cable with no 'earthing' all the time. It ok. Farang not needing earth, farang is 'alien'. Which explains your username.......-
July 30, 201312 yr The new adapter you're using is not earthed, either not connected internally or it's a cheap one that' only got a two core cable. Sent from my i-mobile IQ XA using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app Did you ever have anything earthed in Thailand? Since when? Since I paid to have my house rewired and grounded
July 30, 201312 yr Author My old house would shock me whenever i used the bathroom sink which was nasty. The "electrician" said it was a problem with the dish washer which was downstairs. Apparently a common issue. He did some re wirring in the kitchen which fixed the bathroom. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Also originally there were everywhere ground wires just not proper connected. Finally I did it myself.

When we had a new kitchen extention built I bought dual sockets to use both Thai and UK plugs. The electrician asked 'do I really want an earth connected to them all or have I just bought them because the appliances we have all have three pins on the plugs?' Edited July 30, 201312 yr by sumrit
July 30, 201312 yr So I opened up the strip sockets and found that they had BLUE wired as LIVE, Brown as N.! It is wise to be very careful with any electrical stuff here in Thailand, Regards Worgeordie Thais don't use the same colour coding for their cabling as we do in the UK, seem to use 'whatever cable they've got in their box'. In my in-laws house some of the live wires from the fuse box (?) to the sockets were grey while others were blue. Blue and grey wires connected to the same fuse. I arranged to have a new style circuit breaker fuse box (and an earth) to be fitted in their house by the local village electrician and he said that was the first one he'd fitted.

Hi there, good you are one of the few ones like me, probably because you also supervised yourself. You know we are not a generality, most buildings, even in BKK, don't have any earthing. The condo where I stay has 3 hole plugs but no earth lead connected. Maybe this will all get better some day, probably remote from now, I even saw a few times in exhibition halls the power supplyed on the male connector.

US uses different colour code too, blue is a live lead, as where black is earth
July 31, 201312 yr As others have said if your power plug from the new adapter is a two prong try reversing the way you plug it in, you may have the hot and neutral reversed. if it is a three prong then you may have to rig an adapter to make the switch. if this solves the problem then you are ok. but you would be well advised to get rid of the power cord and buy a new, correct adapter. You could damage your computer and anything that shocks you should tell you that something is wrong, it could catch fire and you wouldn't want that. go to a reputable dealer and test out the new power cord before you buy it! many things in Thailand are wired in reverse because they do not follow any acceptable codes and only worry that the light goes out when they turn the switch to off. You already know that the power cord is bad because your wife's cord does not produce the same shock problem. Buy a new one!

With the wiring, I knew running all those little clips myself was going to be far more tedious than I needed to deal with He did a great job.
