You must be advertising for Tony's.

Aerobics classes are not really old fashioned. They became popular in the 1980's.... and I disagree that it is still the best way to lose weight. It never was. A good cardio machine where you can measure intensity is far more efficient than dancing around to music. The sad part is that most of Tony's cardio equipment is not in good condition and the room is seldom air conditioned these days. I suppose he figures if people are working up a sweat they must be getting fit or losing weight.

However, some people enjoy dancing around to music, which is certainly better than sitting around the house doing nothing at all.

I disagree with BOTH of you. No kind of exercise is the "BEST" way to lose weight.

Changing the food that you eat (it's content and portion size) is more effective for weight loss than exercise, though ideally of course you should do both.

What I am asserting reflects mainstream science.

Not related to commercial promotion concerns.

Cutting calories through dietary changes seems to promote weight loss more effectively than does exercise and physical activity. But physical activity also is important in weight control.

It's pretty hard for some people to understand, but you'd be surprised how much fat you can lose from exercise alone.

Eat the same amount of food and do regular 500 - 1000 calorie burn sessions. You'll lose weight.

No, it's not the quickest way. In fact it's probably the hardest way, but it's the best way. If you can become addicted to exercise, become a fitness fanatic - the chances are you're not going to be fat... and by that stage you've changed your lifestyle too and are probably eating better to facilitate better performance in your chosen sport.

Long term exercise combined with food control is the best plenty of studies on that.

As for the 500-1000 calorie sessions I know you do them and I got quite high too never the 1000 ones though but its definitely not the easy way.

Gone are the 1500 plus calorie burn sessions. They died out when California Wow closed.

well...discussing calories and figuring out pluses and minuses of this or that 'weightloss way' is good for sure. But the best thing is 1) to pick a way to excercise you like the most, 2) to move a lot, 3) stop thinking about calories and being just happynot stopping to move though.

And dancing around to music leaves some of my people quite surprised, especially the workout part ;)

I could be wrong, but my thoughts are that most of the gym goers at Tony's are older folk who don't like loud music and gave up dancing years ago.smile.png

I may be hard to get an enthusiastic aerobic class together here.

I remember all the complaints made about the loud music at California Wow, which was renowned for playing dance music very loud.

I'm a lifetime Tony's member, but I really miss California Wow. I didn't realise how good it was until it was gone.violin.gif.pagespeed.ce.8MK3fN8NTC.gif

IMO the atmosphere at Tony's has always been rather melancholic. You get in there, get it done, but there's no joy in it.
