Four youths charged over Phuket machete attack
Phuket Gazette

PHUKET: -- Police have arrested four youths for a savage attack on a man who was repeatedly beaten and hacked by machete in Karon last Thursday, after the incident was recorded on CCTV.

“We went to the scene and found the victim, Silert Pong-Aroon, seriously injured,” Karon Police Superintendent Weerawat Jantarawichit told the Phuket Gazette.

“Rescue workers rushed him to Vachira Phuket Hospital. None of the attackers were at the scene when we arrived,” he said.

Karon Police checked CCTV footage, on which they saw Mr Silert being repeatedly beaten and hacked at until he fell unconscious.

After viewing the footage, police were able to track down and identify the attackers.

“When we found out who they were, we applied to the Phuket Juvenile Court for arrest warrants, because of the ages of three of the suspects,” said Col Weerawat.

The Phuket Juvenile Court subsequently issued arrest warrants to apprehend the three teenagers – two aged 16 and one aged 17.

Amorn Patkor, 19, was also arrested.

“They were taken to the police station and they all confessed to the charges against them,” Col Weerawat said.

Hospital staff have confirmed to the Gazette that Mr Silert is no longer in critical condition.

“He is now stable but under close observation,” the staffer said.

The attack last Thursday came on the same day Phuket City Police arrested and charged four members of a teenage gang for attempted murder after a Burmese man was seriously injured in a knife attack in Phuket Town early the preceding day

How can teenagers be so violent? What causes them to be so savage?

From http://www.aacap.org/AACAP/Families_and_Youth/Facts_for_Families/Facts_for_Families_Pages/Understanding_Violent_Behavior_In_Children_and_Adolescents_55.aspx

Numerous research studies have concluded that a complex interaction or combination of factors leads to an increased risk of violent behavior in children and adolescents. These factors include:

  • Previous aggressive or violent behavior
  • Being the victim of physical abuse and/or sexual abuse
  • Exposure to violence in the home and/or community
  • Genetic (family heredity) factors
  • Exposure to violence in media (TV, movies, etc.)
  • Use of drugs and/or alcohol
  • Presence of firearms in home
  • Combination of stressful family socioeconomic factors (poverty, severe deprivation, marital breakup, single parenting, unemployment, loss of support from extended family)
  • Brain damage from head injury

Why does it take 4 armed people to beat up on one. Wouldn't one armed with the weapon still of been over the top. My personal opinion is they are scum.

What's with the police having to get an arrest warrant, don't they have a power of arrest built into the legislation?

Phuket has long since been out of control, there is a stream of reports of these violent knife attacks for a few years now. Often the perpetrators are under 18. Obviously they get a lot more coverage when foreigners are the victims as in the murder of the Australian travel agent.

Mysteriously though, the tourists keep flocking there and people keep moving to live there.

So I guess they don't have a power of arrest in the legislation. I am glad we are not restrained like that.

You missed the most important one, just plain Sociopath tendencies that they do not care about others lives or possessions, have no respect for the law and no comprehension of the consequences of their action, despite the fact that they are supposedly Buddhist and learn about cause & effect in their Dharma lessons... or maybe they skip those lessons and go straight to the "donation for salvation 101" course? sad.png

Or just spoiled little C*#T's that have NEVER been disciplined in their lives and think they can do anything with no apparent consequences!!!

What would happen if you would defend yourself and kill an attacker? A Youth. In Thailand.

VERY GOOD QUESTION, I have often wondered myself and have no intention of becoming anyone's punching bag.

Does anyone have an answer? I suspect you would be blamed for the assault or at least provoking it, especially if they came of worse, and therefore charged appropriately!!
