Maybe Craig from Sydney has an aussie passport and a uk visa to allow departure from bangkok but wishes to stay in the uk long term so upon arrival presents expired uk passport for entry.

Yes, but no uk visa ... Do I need to get the visa if traveling on my oz pp? Would assume being British , even on an expired passport, would be enough to be allowed on the flight using my oz pp...just feels a bit off having to get a visa to visit my own country!!

I assume you would be ok as no country can refuse entry to their own citizens. You leave bangkok on Aussie pp and enter on uk one.

So you sold you birth right and took an Aussie passport and now want the best of both worlds, or don't want any of the England Cricket fans taking the mick? whistling.gif

On a serious note check out the immigration website I positive it shouldn't be an issue. Also as an Aussie entering UK you do not need a visa unlike Brits entering Aus.: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/do-you-need-a-visa/

In the 2 weeks before I fly back? Maby if I sent it via rocket mail ... Thanks anyhow

If you are going to ask a question on a forum it is helpful to give any relevant info on the situation

relating to your question like maybe if there is some time constraints involved, don't you think???

Duh!!

Recently applied for my daughters first passport & renewed my own, both on seperate occasions, also acted as countersignatorie on a freinds child passport.

All 3 seperate applications completed in just under or over a week, they are very efficient at this at the moment, so if you are staying with family & staying for a couple of weeks?

I think you'll be ok, but the check in person might be a bit perplexed.

No need for them to be perplexed at all. The OP checks in with his Aussie passport that requires no visa. No worries.

Then, on arrival in the UK, presents his expired UK passport. Just don't get in line at the fast-track, automatic gates as you will get red-lighted and referred to the staffed passport desks.

BTW... how long ago did the UK passport expire?

Fly back from where?

How did you get into this state of affairs and does this mean you have been staying in Thailand as an over stayer with no visa or an expired visa?

Why did you not renew your British passport if you knew there was a chance you maybe visiting the UK in the near future?

This all sounds extremely odd to me, something is not right here.

Sorry, my mistake. I assumed that as Brits need a visa to travel to Australia the same would apply in reverse. To my surprise it doesn't. Think it should.....

Odd? What's odd about OBVIOUSLY having a current Aussie passport and being in Thailand? Aussie's can get visas and also qualify for the visa-less stamp at the airport.

What's odd about having a UK passport AND an Aussie one?

There's plenty people that have only one passport posting panic threads here about being denied a Thai visa because their passport 'suddenly' had less than 6 months validity as well a those 'suddenly' discovering their Thai visa has expired and they are on overstay. Nothing at all odd about discovering a passport you haven't used in ages has expired.

I found this information on a web link. http://www.timaticweb.com/cgi-bin/tim_website_client.cgi?SpecData=1&VISA=&HEALTH=&page=both&NA=GB&AR=00&DE=GB&VT=US&EM=US&PASSTYPES=PASS&user=SKYWEB&subuser=SKYWEB1 information supplied by IATA.

It refers to a UK national departing the US for the UK. Maybe one of our travel industry members can confirm the information. (expired passport information in bold)

so, yes it appears that Australians do not need a visa for the UK. i thought otherwise.

so i will travel to the uk on my valid australian passport as planned. no visa required, no problems.

i will try and use my expired (8 months ago) uk passport to enter and see what happens, out of curiosity. if they are not happy then i enter as an australian tourist.

not sure how the bar stool detective managed to link this to a Thai overstay or illegal entry...!!

I did this in reverse and of course they'll let you in, no country will deny entry to their citizens because of an expired passport, you don't have to renew it to get in.. wink.png

The fact your British passport has expired does not mean your citizenship is no longer valid. The document is still evidence of this which together with your Aussie passport also establishes your identity. Present it on arrival and you will be admitted without further ado.

The Austrian embassy can give temporary Austrian passports within 10 min. They are valid 6 month only.

Good enough to go home if the old one was stohlen.

Don't know if UK has the same thing.

You are allowed in to UK on your Oz passport. They stamp it in the usual way with a time limit and ask you why your entering etc. You only need the valid passport to get on the flight as that is one of the conditions (Must have at least 6 months left before expiry) or the airline can refuse boarding.

I did the same not so long ago, just out of interest to see what would happen. I have UK passport too but was just a flying visit.

They will let you in with your expired passport and you can renew when there no problem
