the severely underpaid and abused maids divvied up your clothes for their sons/nephews after you disappeared. then when you returned from the dead and squeaked long & loud enough, the owner leaned on them to return them. I've had some fave tshirts disappear from family-run 'resorts' in LoS and Bali even w/o my disappearing for weeks at a time.

The bit I'm curious on is your proposed bike journey. From Thailand to Singapore then onto Bali. That's no quiet Sunday ride. How far and how long do you think?

Report it to TAT and the Tourist police. What they do is inacceptable. Every hotel in the Western world is responsable for the loss of the laundry in such a case and has to replace it or pay for the caused damage.

Fine if it makes you feel better, but a complete waste of time. Your things are gone; suck it up and move on.

Where did you read that one?

"All care given, no responsibility taken"

Hotels are not obligated to do compensate for the loss or damage to clothing. Have a look the next time you drop your reg grundy's in for laundering at a "western world" hotel, read the form you sign.

Sorry, but the blame falls firmly at the feet of the guy who left clothing worth 5000 baht in the laundry of a "shithole" hotel for 2 weeks without telling anybody when he would return to pick them up.

"Thrown in the river" means took anything of any value and sold it to cover the cost of the laundry. If they managed to find 350 baht of laundry you either overpaid or there was a lot of stuff.

Accept the loss, learn from it. No way they will compensate you.

He's not dumped it in the river, he's either kept it for himself or he's sold it.

Maybe your Thai is not so good and he really said your lycra grabbing scrotum super cycling shorts were washed away in the river - They still use Tide here! Maybe your 'guesthouse' could not run to a washing machine or it was beyond its life cycle.

Really? I have similar shorts. You go commando in them. Would you wear some strangers shorts like those? seriously? Appreciably, used undergarments can fetch a price on fetish websites, but anyone that would want those shorts is not going to want a used pair. Creepy.

They most likely were tossed, and quite rightly so. The OP abandoned them and the hotel/laundry had neither the legal nor moral obligation to keep the laundry.

Glad to see that the stuff turned up OP but the best thing to me would have been seeing you down the cop shop reporting the loss and the police office filling in the form is wearing your shorts. biggrin.png

You're gonna ride to Singapore! Good luck. I'm sure you are already aware there's not many bike paths in Thailand.

I was given a t shirt by a hotel owner in Phnom Phen and wore it once. Sent it to be cleaned and when my laundry was ready asked where is my Parrot shirt. Oh that yours, Man from England see and say it was his and new girl not know. Thieving pommy bastard.

GK, you should by now to read the topic before posting. coffee1.gif

The OP posted the following 24 hours ago. Did any of you that have posted since then actually bother to read it? Jeez...

"OK, went back and they had found all my cycling stuff. Crisis averted, all I've lost is an afternoon of my time and I'm not exactly short of that. Thank Buddha."

Discreetly over looked by the 'I know this thread is dead in the water but I still want my time in the sun' brigade :P

P.S Teddy is looking quite fetching in his new hat! Hahaha

Oh I read it. initially, a crisis over the presumed loss of some laundry. Followed by suggestions that they were sold or "stolen", then followed by the recovery of the sacred vestments. My comment was in respect to your unfounded statement that the man had either kept it for himself or sold it.. Why would you make such a statement? Maybe you would wear a stranger's undergarments, but for those of us that come from a different culture, we would not. It's the same reason why most retailers do not allow customers to return bathing suits and undergarments. It's a public health issue related to little insects called lice.

It's a bit over 3,000km, should take me 2-3 months taking it easy depending on how much I stop to see on the way. I've done that distance in 18 days before when I was a bit fitter. I cycled here from Europe (~22,000km) so am well used to it :)

I've already ridden about 3,000km just around Thailand, I rode up to Mae Sae from Bangkok in the first place and I've also ridden east, west and south. I've also ridden across Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, China, Nepal, India, Oman, UAE, Iran, Syria and Turkey. Thailand is probably easier than any of them, honestly, it's one of the best places in Asia to ride a bike IMO. Plenty of small roads that aren't too busy and drivers here are actually more careful and courteous than in most Asian countries, believe it or not.

The ONLY tricky place to ride a bike in Thailand is central Bangkok and I even managed that OK once I got used to it.

Gawd GK, some days you get out of bed with a pedantic stick up your *ss. However it came to be it turned out I was right, he still had the clothes. Sorry for disturbing your zen like state.

@blorg, good luck with your journey. If you have a blog pm it to me so that I can have a look at how your getting on and where you've been. I fear however by the time you finish this journey myself and GK will still be fighting "The Battle of Blorgs Undies". He's like a dog with a bone once he gets started. coffee1.gif

Actually if you have a blog you should put in a post describing this farce. Original content sir, original content biggrin.png
