BANGKOK: -- The Chonburi man who killed his fiancé and her mother in a cold-blooded shooting caught on CCTV was apprehended alive by police yesterday.

Police had issued the rare jub tai order in the wake of the brutal double murder last week, which means the officers should capture the suspect dead or alive.

But suspect Thanet Kaekan, 35, was arrested alive without shots being fired in the middle of the night on Aug. 11, ThaiRath reported. No information was reported on the exact time or location of the arrest.

"Chonburi police . . . brought Thanet to perform a crime reenactment, where over 100 officers were employed to prevent a mob attack on the suspect by outraged local residents."

The crime is on CCTV. Wonder why a reenactment was necessary. Seems it might do more harm than good to the community. unsure.png

Something fishy about this story, how did BIB's find him so fast and why would he give up without a shootout?

My bet is he turned himself in and the BIB's want to take all the credit for it. clap2.gif

Fishy? Just because the police here are corrupt etc. doesn't mean they are not good at doing the jobs they are supposed to do.

Why give up without a shoot out? hmmmm wasn't a good day to die comes to mind.

I comment the BIB on catching this bastard and hope they really do hang em high

Anyone praising the police in this thread is a moron.

If the BIB had REALLY done their job the shooter, who already had a criminal record for violence, would not have been walking around with an unregistered hand gun.

There is nothing praise worthy about making an arrest AFTER two people have been executed.

Just to point out the police have nothing to do with sentencing and jail time.

Their job is to catch and arrest criminals, which in this case they did very quickly.

You might want to direct your ire towards judges and parole panels.

Wrong...

Their job is to PREVENT crime.

Let just have a look at the definition of police shall we:

po·lice n. pl.

1. The governmental department charged with the regulation and control of the affairs of a community, now chiefly the department established to maintain order, enforce the law, and prevent and detect crime.

2. A body of persons making up such a department, trained in methods of law enforcement and crime prevention and detection and authorized to maintain the peace, safety, and order of the community.

Wrong...

Their job is to PREVENT crime.

Very few police agencies in the world try to prevent crime, and when they do it is a very minor part of their role.

Mainly the police worldwide are there to catch and arrest criminals.

In Thailand that is their only function.

Wrong...AGAIN...

Police, in any country, head out every day and every night on patrols. Why...to prevent crime....

You're right everytime I go into a shop I see the Police sat in there preventing a double murder happening

The Police in any country try to prevent crime happening however since they cannot patrol every square centimeter crime does happen, their job then is to catch the perpertrator which they have done in this case

In the United States, the Supreme Court itself has ruled that the police have no special duty to protect the individual and prevent crime. Granted, the police here take that to the extreme but still, why don't you save your impotent anger towards them. The police here suck. We know that. But once in a blue moon, they do have their redeeming moments. This is one of them. So why don't you take it as a win and stop your whining?

The courts let this guy out of jail to kill so blaming the police for this crime is just idiotic. This wasn't some random crime on the streets.

What does the USA supreme court have to do with this?

I fail to see the relevance and the reasoning for bring that into the thread.

Bottom line is the guy was caught

IMO probably due to a tip off

Hope he gets what he deserves
