the road to doi suthep is a racetrack for many wannabe rossi's and i have seen a few accidents. best to go early early morning. It is a fantastic piece of road though, what makes it so good (and relatively safe) is the double lane going up.

I notice when new bikes are released there are always more skid marks/ concrete scrapes on the road...almost always in the same places too.

Wednesdays and Saturdays people meet at the view point, 3 turns before the temple between 6-630pm....some friendly little races up on those days ;)

Beware of Wave 125's going down, most the Ducati riders arent a threat coffee1.gif

Recommended lines where that rider miscalculated and could be fatal.

2:15 inside line
2:40 go wide turn in at apex
2:50 go inside and nail it all the way, it leads to a straight.Go wide and you may hit a van/bus.
3:23 go wide turn in at apex
4:50 180 curve pull back
5:00 go wide turn in at apex
5:20 go wide turn in at apex
7:19 go wide turn in at apex
7:55 high chance of lowsiding, reverse banking

We got route 118 Chiang Rai, Phrao, Phrao loop, Canal road, Samoeng loop, MHS loop, Pai, Doi Inthanon

Kaeng Krachan is doable from CNX thumbsup.gif

There are many things in life that one can attempt alone, but mostly if you want something done well you require the services of a professional.

That was good KSR1. The road surface looked bad in places about 8.00 minutes in.

When we were up there we did the tourist thing. Went up there on a Suzuki Hayate rental......which pissed me off about 3 corners passed the zoo!

Next time I will be renting some bigger ponies!

Of course I like Doi Suthep it is a nice twisty ribbon.

But it is only 9 minutes long & it is a road to a Temple & is

packed with silver vans, Tour buses & red trucks.

It really is not the place to be flying along & the odds are eventually

there will likely be a problem for those that treat it like a track.

No matter that there are two lanes going up if your passing a bus round a bend

& see a bus coming at you in your lane as is common there.

Coming down is also fun but not without risk because traffic again really backs

up going down due to it being only one lane & those buses etc.

So now you become the problem passing in the uphill lane.

But yes a nice road no doubt about it.

When I first was looking for places I would do multiple

passes there early when there were only a few cars. But the problem with that

is early in the day due to the road being mainly shaded is that it can be damp

& have wet leaves etc on it. Making for some slippery moments

Samoeng Loop is a much better option. ( but still a public road & not a track )

Longish at 100km if you count the whole thing but at least 60+km of nice ride & many sections

without homes & cross streets etc. so your not endangering folks.

But no matter what for higher speeds nothing can beat a track & I wish we had one here.

Love the Sameng loop, but like a junky sometimes i need a quick fix. thumbsup.gif If you keep it under 85kph in the corners its not that dangerous, you can still see oncoming obstacles. Going down though is about a 50/50 chance of getting struck if you think your feeling lucky, I never push my luck going down.

Track would be awesome in CNX, but honestly I would still ride all the free roads more often. Maybe hit the track like once a month.

BTW, I think the ESSO on the superhighway got their tanks mixed up, pump # 10 for 91 gasohol feels like 95 gasohol, my mileage went down (100baht = 60 vs 75) and engine smoothed out just like 95 would do to it...3 consecutive times now.

Mainly the length of it ( or lack of length )being 9 minutes &

overall it is just such a touristy road with all that it brings

Just did this ride yesterday, no rain and the road was dry, I think about the 50th time I have ridden this road but it is always fun

9 minutes? Would think the [105] Tak to Mae Sot and the [1090] to Umphang would be what you CNX guys are missing. Not me in video; just shamelessy stolen.

If you like that ride you'll love the 107 CNX -Mae Sai, tight technical turns. Then back via 118 to CNX, with sweeping turns you can hit around 120+kph....About 5.5-6 hours round trip.

We got the Chiang Dao-Phrao loop at around 3 hours also. The leg between Phrao and CNX in the mountains is all black top.

Doi Suthep is just convenient, its right in our backyard for when you need a quickie.

My biggest issue with Mae Sot/Umphang is the condition of the road in places. Does add flavour but can't get those Rossi apex carving.
