Phuket police force to start growing in November
Phuket Gazette

PHUKET: -- Phuket’s police force will increase by 700 officers next year, with new officers starting to arrive in November, Royal Thai Police Commissioner Adul Saengsingkaew has announced.

The move is to upgrade the island’s force to meet the demands of increasing numbers of tourists and residents on the island.

“Phuket will have a bigger and more efficient police force in 2014,” General Adul said.

The first batch of new officers, a group of 97 new graduates from the police academy, are due to arrive on the island in November.

“Right now there are 1,100 police officers on Phuket,” said Provincial Police Commander Choti Chavalviwat, Phuket’s top-ranking police officer.

“That’s not enough to handle our population, which is officially 320,000, but in reality is closer to a million people.

“The increasing number of tourists creates more problems that we have to deal with, such as illegal guides and businesses taking advantage of tourists,” he explained.

In addition to increasing the size of the force, the current plan also calls for up-scaling its equipment, operating systems, skills and look.

“In 2014 Phuket police will upgrade to international standards, so we have to upgrade uniforms and vehicles, as well as the procedures we use to solve tourist problems,” Gen Adul said.

“We’ll add new signs in English in police stations and at immigration to make them easier for tourists to use, and we’ll continue with our English-language training,” he added.

So Phuket will be safe again .?

Thainess Promotion: When we need to stamp out corruption and keep Phuket safe, we will add 97 rookies straight from the academy and keep all ranking commissioned officers. No changes will be made at the senior levels. This is to ensure all 97 rookies are properly trained by the senior staff.

So the Phuket police force is to start growing. It will be nice to have more policemen over 5 feet tall!!cheesy.gif

So Phuket will be safe again .?

Well kids always act like there parents, so if the new recruits are influenced by the lazy ones we already have... its just a matter of time before its rinse and repeat. I only expect 10% increase in effectiveness from all the new BiBs.

A million? I doubt there are that many illegals living here unless they are counting the tourists that are here at any given time.

Does 'bigger' necessarily correlate with 'more efficient'?

Obviously not from the police it won't be.

Does 'bigger' necessarily correlate with 'more efficient'?

Certainly not in LOS!
